According to oddsmakers, the Phillies are the slight favorite at home, as they are getting odds of -115 to win. The Nationals are listed with a money line of -105 to win, while the over/under total is set at 10.5 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 55 percent going on Philadelphia at home. Nationals on a roll
The Nationals have won the first two games in this series, 4-0 and 4-3, to win their eights out of their last nine games. Washington is now 49-42 overall, 23-22 on the road and 43-42 with the over. Anibal Sanchez is getting the start today. He is 5-6 on the year with a 3.66 ERA.
The Nationals put up three runs over the last two innings to overcome a 3-0 deficit on Saturday. Juan Soto had a two-run home run in the ninth to put the Nats ahead for good. He had three hits and scored two runs in the game. Anthony Rendon added two hits and a run for Washington in the win. On the mound, Patrick Corbin got the start and had 10 strikeouts over six innings, but gave up three runs and didn’t take a decision. Wander Suero got the win in relief while Sean Doolittle recorded his 20th save of the year.
Philly slips again
Philadelphia has lost five of its last seven games following the 4-3 loss to the Nationals on Saturday. The Phillies are 47-45 on the season, 27-19 at home and 46-43 with the under. Philly has Jake Arrieta on the mound today. He is 8-7 on the year with a 4.67 ERA.
Aaron Nola had a solid start, allowing just one run over six innings with nine strikeouts, but the Phillies couldn’t hold on to the lead for him. Hector Neris gave up the home run in the ninth to take his fourth loss of the year. At the plate, Maikel Franco had two hits and two RBI to lead the Phillies while Rhys Hoskins had two hits and scored two runs.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals have won seven of their last eight road games and six of their last seven Sunday games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 2-5 in their last seven NL East games and 4-9 in their last 13 games following a loss.
Prediction:
Sanchez has been pretty consistent with his outings. He has thrown six innings in five straight and allowed just one earned run in three of them. Washington has won seven of his last eight starts as well. Arrieta is trending in the other direction, allowing 14 earned runs over his last 14.1 innings. Given the run the Nationals are on right now, I am going to stick with the hot team, and the hot pitcher, to get another victory today.
MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -105
