Tigers’ Fiers locks down Rangers in easy win
Mike Fiers surrendered one run on five hits over six innings in Saturday’s win over the Rangers. Fiers was the beneficiary of the Tigers dropping a seven-spot on Cole Hamels in the first inning. He did not squander the opportunity for an easy outing, striking out six and walking one over six frames, with only a solo home run by Rougned Odor in the sixth inning spoiling his vibe. He’s been pitching well of late, having now turned in three consecutive starts of one run surrendered, five or fewer hits allowed and at least six innings. He’ll look to make it four such consecutive outings in a road dance with the Astros in his next scheduled outing. Fiers is working to a respectable 3.65 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 74/21 K/BB ratio across 98 2/3 innings covering 17 starts.
Astros’ Keuchel sharp for seven innings in last start
Dallas Keuchel worked seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in the Astros’ 2-1 defeat of the White Sox. That one run he allowed came on a Tim Anderson sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. Keuchel issued three walks and surrendered six hits, but prevented the White Sox from inflicting any major damage throughout the afternoon as the Astros notched their sixth win in a row. The 30-year-old left-hander will carry a 3.95 ERA into his next start at home against the Tigers
