Twins head into break with 11-inning loss
Minnesota fell 4-1 in 11 innings at home Sunday afternoon against Texas in its final game before the All-Star Break. The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but gave up the tying run in the fourth before surrendering a 3-run homer in the 11th to decide it. Miguel Sano paced the Twins offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Mitch Garver finished the contest 2-for-5. Adalberto Mejia took the loss in relief as he gave up three eanred runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking two. Kyle Gibson draws the start for Minnesota tonight as he enters with an 8-4 record, 4.09 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 94 strikeouts over 94 2/3 innings pitched.
Indians finish first half with six straight wins
Cleveland crushed host Cincinnati Sunday afternoon by a count of 11-1 for its sixth consecutive victory. Greg Allen paced the Indians offense as he finished 4-for-6 with a home run, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Jason Kipnis was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Trevor Bauer picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over seven innings of work. MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 8-1 in their last nine Friday games. Minnesota is 2-5 in its last seven road games.
Cleveland
The Indians are 5-1 in their last home games. Cleveland is 11-5 in its last 16 starts by Clevinger.
Prediction:
The Indians were rolling into the All-Star Break and are finally playing like most assumed they would from the start this season in a weak AL Central. But the Twins have taken a massive step forward this season and are providing a roadblock in the AL Central. With Minnesota dealing with some injuries recently, it has taken a step back. Clevinger appears to be back in good form finally since having a couple duds coming off the injured list. I like Cleveleland to continue its surge with another victory in this spot.
