White Sox staying afloat
Chicago hasn’t had a great 2019 season thus far, but are finding a way to stay near the .500 mark but winning four of their last six. The Sox are 42-44 on the season, 17-24 on the road and 42-42 with the over/under total. Chicago has Ivan Nova getting the start today. He is 4-7 on the season with a 5.58 ERA.
The Sox don’t have great numbers in hitting or pitching, but still manage to be competitive. Chicago has a 5.04 team ERA with a 1.45 team WHIP on the mound. At the plate, Chicago averages 4.40 runs per game while hitting .257 as a team. Jose Abreu is leading the team with 21 doubles, 21 home runs and 66 RBI while Yoan Moncada has 18 doubles, 16 home runs and 48 RBI.
Oakland playing well
The Athletics won seven of their last nine games entering the All-Star Break. Oakland is now 50-41 on the season, 26-20 at home and 47-44 with the under. The A’s have Mike Fiers getting the start tonight. He is 8-3 on the year with a 3.87 ERA.
Oakland is pretty solid at the plate and on the mound, ranking in the top third of the majors in both. At the plate, the Athletics are averaging 5.08 runs per game while hitting .246. On the mound, Oakland has a 4.06 team ERA with a 1.26 team WHIP. Matt Chapman is leading the team with 22 doubles, 21 home runs and 52 RBI while Marcus Semien has 21 doubles, 14 home runs and 48 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox have won five of their last seven series openers and five of their last six games following a day off.
Oakland
The Athletics have won five of their last six series openers and 40 of their last 51 games against AL Central opponents.
Prediction:
Nova is coming off a good start against the Cubs, but has struggled most of the year thus far. Fiers has been pretty steady and allowed just one earned run in each of his last four starts. While not able to get a lot of strikeouts, Fiers has steadily gone at least six full innings. I can’t trust Nova to do that. He is likely to give up a few big hits with this road game out West. I think Fiers can avoid the big Chicago bats and lead Oakland to the win.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -190
