Tigers stymied by Scherzer
Detroit lost by a count of 2-1 Sunday afternoon at home versus Washington as former Tiger Max Scherzer struck out 14 in a dominating performance. Brandon Dixon accounted for the lone run as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo homer plus a walk. Bobby Wilson ended the contest 1-for-2. Niko Goodrum went 1-for-4 with a double. Joe Jimenez took the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit plus a walk without recording an out. Tyler Alexander will make his MLB debut today for the Tigers.
Giolito earns 11th win
Chicago held on Sunday afternoon for a 4-3 home victory over Minnesota to improve to 39-42 overall and 22-18 at home. Yoan Moncada ended the contest 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Jose Abreu finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. James McCann and Jon Jay were both 1-for-4 with an RBI. Lucas Giolito improved to 11-2 on the season as he threw five shutout innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. Ross Detwiler will start today for the White Sox as he gave up two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks over five innings in a 6-4 home win June 28 over Minnesota.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 0-7 in their last seven games versus the AL Central. Detroit is 6-21 in the last 27 Norris starts.
Chicago
The White Sox are 4-1 in their last five games versus the AL Central. Chicago is 11-5 in its last 16 home games.
Prediction:
I can’t endorse the Tigers here on the road. Detwiler isn’t very good, but we don’t know what to expect from Alexander and banking on him getting much support from a putrid Detroit offense is a stretch. Take the hosts in the second game of the doubleheader.
