Twins unable to rally
Minnesota scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Sunday afternoon but could not get over the hump in what ended as a 4-3 loss at Chicago. Nelson Cruz helped pace the Twins offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Miguel Sano went 1-for-2 with an RBI off the bench. Jorge Polanco ended the contest 1-for-4 with a run scored. Lewis Thorpe suffered the loss as he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Jake Odorizzi will start tonight as he comes in with a 10-3 record, 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 94 strikeouts over 85 2/3 innings.
A’s crush Angels in series finale
Oakland cruised to a 12-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Los Angeles to improve to 46-39 overall and 22-20 on the road. The A’s scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to put it away. Matt Chapman had a big day at the plate as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, a triple, two runs and six RBIs. Ramon Laureano went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Josh Phegley was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Chris Bassitt picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking one. Daniel Mengden gets the start tonight for the Athletics as he comes in with a 2-1 record, 4.03 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 24 strikeouts over 29 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 7-1 in their last eight Tuesday games. Minnesota is 12-1 in the last 13 Odorizzi starts.
Oakland
The A’s are 5-1 in their last six games overall. Oakland is 6-1 in the last seven Mengden starts.
Prediction:
Oakland is playing good baseball and has the bats going, while Odorizzi hasn’t pitched as well as he had been all season his last three starts. I think the A’s make for a smart play here as the Twins could be set up for a bit of regression over the second half of the season. Mengden isn’t a great pitcher by any means, but he usually pitches his best at home. I’m going to bank on the A’s bats supporting him enough to notch the home win.
