Pirates rally late to win
Pittsburgh scored once in the eighth inning and once in the ninth Friday night at Milwaukee to secure a 3-2 victory. Kevin Newman helped lead the offense as he went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and also had a second RBI to put the Pirates on top in the ninth via a fielder’s choice. Bryan Reynolds ended the game 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Adam Frazier finished 2-for-4. Felipe Vazquez struck out four in two perfect innings of relief to notch the win. Jordan Lyles draws the start tonight as he enters with a 5-3 record, 3.64 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 66 strikeouts over 64 1/3 innings.
Brewers bullpen falters
Milwaukee lost a late lead Friday night at home in a 3-2 loss versus Pittsburgh to drop to 43-39 overall and 25-18 at home. Eric Thames helped lead the Brewers offense as he ended the game 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Lorenzo Cain was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Ben Gamel finished the contest 2-for-3. Jeremy Jeffress took the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk over one inning. MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five road games. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in its last five Saturday games.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 3-8 in their last 11 games overall. Milwaukee is 10-1 in the last 11 Woodruff home starts.
Prediction:
I really want to take the Pirates here, but Lyles hasn’t been in good form lately and Woodruff has been really difficult to beat at home. The Brewers have been in a funk, but super reliever Josh Hader will be available today after not pitching yesterday and I expect the hosts to get to Lyles. Go with the big favorites here as they are due for a good showing.
