Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin
Matt Olson hit his 14th home run of the year in Thursday’s loss to the Angels. Angels starter Griffin Canning was pretty good on this night, but in the fourth inning he left a pitch where you don’t leave a pitch to power hitters like Olson. The 25-year-old made him pay, launching a 431-foot homer to center to cut into the Angels’ lead. It was the only hit for Olson in four at-bats on the evening. Having the hamate bone removed from your hand is supposed to sap your power, at least anecdotally, but Olson must have missed the memo — in 46 games since returning from the injury, the first baseman has 14 home runs. Sap that.
Los Angeles Angels Fantasy Spin
Kole Calhoun hit a two-run home run and scored twice in a win over the Athletics on Thursday. Calhoun got all of a Tanner Anderson offering in the second inning and he knew it, dropping his bat and briefly watching it fly before beginning his trot around the bases. The ball landed approximately 427 feet away in left-center field. The dinger was No. 17 for Calhoun, who’s got 40 RBI and 48 runs scored in 77 games this year. The power has been there but the average hasn’t for the 31-year-old, who’s batting .230/.323/.471 overall.

They’re also 8-3 in Fiers’ last 11 starts coming off five days of rest, are 6-2 in his last eight outings versus an opponent with a winning record and are 45-22 in their last 67 games when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game.
