Stanton out 4-6 weeks
MIAMI, FL (TheSpread) – The Miami Marlins were having a tough enough season prior to Giancarlo Stanton getting hurt. Now the Marlins will be without their slugger for four to six weeks.
Stanton suffered the injury on Friday night when he suffered a broken bone in his wrist, the hamate bone, as part of a 7-1 loss to the Dodgers. It is expected that Stanton will be having surgery.
“He is going to meet today with Dr. (Lee) Kaplan and a hand specialist to determine the best course of action,” Miami manager Dan Jennings said on Saturday. “From what I’ve been told, it is better to have the surgical procedure, healing-wise. We’re hoping that it will be the quickest course possible, but certainly not great news when you lose a guy that means what he’s meant to this ballclub and to baseball.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Marlins are currently listed with 120/1 odds to win the World Series. The Cardinals and Nationals are co-favorites to win the World Series, as each has 8/1 odds while the Dodgers and Royals have 9/1 odds. Miami also currently has 60/1 odds to win the NL Pennant.
Stanton is in his sixth season and he had 27 home runs with 67 RBI in 74 games thus far in 2015. Stanton was batting .265 for the season while striking out 95 times. He has 181 home runs thus far in his career. The Marlins are currently 31-45 on the season and 11 games out of first place in the NL East.
