Mets drop another
The New York Mets suffered a 13-7 loss at Philly in the series opener on Monday. They have lost six of their last nine. The Mets are 37-42 on the season, 17-28 on the road and 42-29 with the over. Walter Lockett is getting the start today. He is 0-1 with a 23.14 ERA.
The Mets had the hitting on Monday night, posting 15 hits. However, they stranded 10 batters and had their pitching let them down in a big way. Steven Matz took the loss as he allowed seven runs over 4.1 innings to fall to 5-6 on the year. Both New York relievers also gave up runs. At the plate, the Mets hit four home runs in the game. Wilson Ramos went long and finished with three hits while Michael Conforto had three hits with two RBI. Todd Frazier also drove in two runs.
Phillies end losing streak
Philadelphia put an end to a seven-game losing streak on Monday night with the 13-7 win over the Mets. Philly is now 40-38 on the season, 24-17 at home and 41-35 with the under. The Phillies have Jake Arrieta on the mound today. He is 6-6 on the year with a 4.12 ERA.
The Phillies put up 19 hits in Monday’s win. Rhys Hoskins hit his 17th home run of the year while Jean Segura had four hits with two RBI. Maikel Franco had three hits with three RBI while Bryce Harper had two RBI doubles. Zach Eflin got the win on the mound despite allowing six runs over five innings. He is 7-7 on the season.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets have won 20 of their last 28 Game 2’s in a series, but just 3-7 in their last 10 games against a right-handed starter.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 1-4 in their last five home games and 1-7 in their last eight against NL East opponents.
Prediction:
Lockett struggled in his only start this year, allowing six runs over 2.1 innings against the Cubs last week. Arrieta has struggled this season, but he is coming off a solid outing against the Nationals. I think he will be okay at home against the Mets, especially with the likely run support he is going to get. Philly should beat up on Lockett, who looked awful in his lone start.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -155
