Orioles’ Cashner back on track to return Wednesday vs. Nationals
Andrew Cashner (back) expects to rejoin the Orioles’ rotation Wednesday versus the Nationals after getting through a bullpen session Sunday with no issues. Cashner has been out of commission for a couple weeks with a lower back injury. He’ll return to a 4.98 ERA and can be avoided for fantasy purposes.
Nationals’ Gonzalez takes loss vs. Blue Jays in last start
Gio Gonzalez took the loss Friday after giving up five runs over six-plus innings against the Blue Jays. Gonzalez held the Blue Jays to three runs through six innings before giving up a single to Devon Travis and a ground rule double to Teoscar Hernandez (when Adam Eaton lost the ball in the lights) to begin the seventh. Justin Miller replaced him from there and gave up a sacrifice fly to Justin Smoak before Yangervis Solarte connected for a two-run homer. Gonzalez fanned three and walked a pair in the loss. He’ll start against the Orioles at home next week.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 0-6 in their last six games against the Nationals and are 0-4 in their last four games played in D.C.
Washington
The Nationals have dropped five of Gonzalez’s last six starts versus the Orioles.
Prediction:
The Nationals have been a strong bet when Gonzalez starts. They’re 5-0 in his last six home starts, are 5-1 in his last six outings overall, and are 23-7 in his last 30 starts on Wednesday (for whatever reason). It’s been the opposite for the Orioles and Cashner. They’re 2-9 in his last 11 starts, are 1-4 in his last five road outings and are winless in his last five starts when he’s coming off a quality start in his last appearance.
The Pick: Washington Nationals -1.5
