Latest from Rotoworld: Cain surrendered five runs and 10 hits in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Brewers. Cain hasn’t been able to maintain his strong April performance, going 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA in his last seven starts. He has a 20/18 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings during that span. If the Giants were in contention and had a healthy Madison Bumgarner, they might have been willing to move on from Cain at this point. As is, they don’t have any great reason to make a change until Bumgarner returns or someone in the minors starts banging down the door.
Freeland was saddled with his fourth loss of the season on Monday, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings against the Pirates. Freeland walked two and struck out three on the evening. The Pirates’ got to him early in this one, with Josh Harrison blasting a two-run homer just two batters into the ballgame. They would add on another pair in the third inning and scratch out the fifth run in the sixth. Even with the rough outing, Freeland still sports a respectable 3.45 ERA and 1.37 WHIP on the season. He’ll try to get back in the win column on Saturday when he takes on the Giants at Coors Field.
