Arenado, scorching Rockies take South Beach
Miami is third in the National League East, seven games behind division-leading Washington. That the Fish even remain in the thick of things is largely thanks to the efforts of one a 41-year-old marvel.
Ichiro Suzuki, who just passed Pete Rose for the unofficial record of most hits as a professional player, leads the Marlins into tonight’s series opener vs. Colorado. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, though, prefer the red-hot Rockies. Miami therefore assumes a slight underdog status. The over/under run total rests at eight.
The seemingly ageless Suzuki now boasts 4,257 base knocks between the United States and Japan. He holds a .349 batting average this season, often serving as a stabilizing presence in a lineup beset by injuries and just plain ineffectiveness (Giancarlo Stanton, we’re looking at you). Can the outfielder continue his success vs. Jon Gray? The top prospect has put together four quality outings in a row following a brutal several-week stretch.
Colorado’s calling card, though, remains its offense. All-Star frontrunners Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story are hardly slowing down, combining for 37 homers and 102 RBIs so far. They’ve lifted the Rockies to eight wins in the past 10 games.

Best of luck to Adam Conley, then. He takes the mound for manager Don Mattingly instead of Jose Fernandez, the Marlins’ originally scheduled starter. While it’s commendable that the organization is being cognizant of the ace’s post-elbow surgery workload, he would certainly help the club in this setting. Roll with the group that can’t stop raking.
