Yanks’ Sabathia takes revival tour to Minnesota
CC Sabathia assumed the role of stopper for many years. Tonight, he must bust out some of those old tricks.
The lefty aims to help the Yankees (31-34) halt a four-game losing streak when they visit Minnesota, with an 8:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Target Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv like the six-time All-Star’s chances, listing the road warriors as 1.5-run favorites. The Twins, conversely, are +123 underdogs.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Sabathia, whose numbers could merit Midsummer Classic consideration all over again. In addition to giving Joe Girardi’s raw rotation a steadying presence of the highest order, he totes a 2.28 ERA. Only three American League starters can go lower. The California native ranks among the AL leaders with a WAR of 2.4, too.
On the other side, skipper Paul Molitor leans on Kyle Gibson. The former first-round draft pick missed a long stretch of action because of a sprained right shoulder, so he’s still searching for victory No. 1 on the campaign. Gibson is 1-3 with a 10.72 ERA in five career assignments vs. New York.

Sabathia, naturally, has terrorized Minnesota (20-45) forever. Look for him to improve to 18-9 against the AL Central’s basement dwellers in a short while.
