Can Sabathia, Yanks stave off Blue Jays?
Virtually everybody wrote off CC Sabathia after the troubling events of last October. Not only has the lefty restored his reputation, he’s back to giving opposing batters fits.
Sabathia hopes his next impressive feat comes in tonight’s Yankees-Blue Jays middle contest, with a 7:07 p.m. ET first pitch up north. Online sports book Bovada.lv lists the hosts as 1.5-run favorites. New York, conversely, receives odds of +152 to pull the upset.
A rehab stint for alcohol abuse kept Sabathia (3-3, 2.83 ERA) off the Yanks’ 2015 playoff roster, but the six-time All-Star’s off to a rather rollicking start this year. He yielded two unearned runs and a pair of base knocks in seven innings of a 3-1 defeat to Toronto nearly a week ago and boasts a 0.45 ERA across the past three starts. For his career, Sabathia owns a 15-7 record vs. John Gibbons’ bunch.
The Blue Jays counter with J.A. Happ (6-2, 3.20), whose own renaissance continues to excite the fan base in Canada. Gibbons’ much-ballyhooed offense is finally beginning to hit its stride, too. Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson have combined to belt eight dingers since May 20.

We sense that Sabathia’s feel-good story will encounter some problems here. Expect the defending AL East champs to claim their ninth victory in 12 tilts. The Yanks, on the other hand, risk dropping five of seven.
