Dodgers to snap Cubs’ long winning streak?
After snatching two of three from ultra-aggressive Mets, can the Dodgers stay hot against the top team in the majors?
Los Angeles visits Chicago in this afternoon’s series opener, with a 5:05 p.m. ET first pitch at Wrigley Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI pick the North Siders to claim their sixth straight win, while Dave Roberts’ gang enters as a +124 underdog. The over/under run total is eight.
Sixteen hours removed from sending New York to a 4-2 defeat, the Dodgers dispatch Alex Wood (1-3, 4.03 ERA) to the bump vs. Joe Maddon’s crew. The lefty fanned a career-high 13 on May 21. Nonetheless, a triceps flare-up prevented him from making Friday’s scheduled appearance. Wood confronts the Cubs (34-14) for the first time since Aug. 30.
Jason Hammel (6-1, 2.17) didn’t enjoy much success in a pair of 2015 meetings with Los Angeles, but the veteran righty’s currently locked in like never before. He twirled a season-best 7 1/3 innings in last week’s 12-3 W over St. Louis, holding the division rival to a run and four base knocks. The South Carolina native should face a stern challenge from the Dodgers (27-24), however, as they’ve averaged 5.57 runs during a 6-1 stretch.

Still, we think the quick turnaround following a primetime showcase will affect the NL West stalwarts in an adverse manner. Wood must also devise a way to contain Ben Zobrist, who’s in the midst of a 15-game hitting streak. Believe in Chicago and that 17-6 home record.
