Roark allowed one run in seven innings pitched to beat the Mariners 5-1 on Wednesday. He gave up a run-scoring single to Robinson Cano in the first inning and then clamped down to toss a subsequent six scoreless frames. He gave up eight base hits, did not issue a walk and punched out eight batters in the masterful effort. It was a nice turnaround after he allowed seven runs in his last outing. Roark improved to 4-2 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 10 starts. He has 50 strikeouts and 21 walks in 58 1/3 innings.
Moore surrendered four runs — three earned — in six-plus innings Wednesday against the Cubs. Moore took the loss, leaving him 2-5 with a 5.28 ERA. He’ll likely get on a roll at some point and amass some mixed-league value, but he’s been really disappointing thus far. He’ll face the hard-hitting Nationals next time out.
Bet Today’s Nationals vs. Giants Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Giants have not been profitable when Moore pitches. They’re 2-6 in his last eight starts, are 1-4 in his last five outings when he’s coming off four days of rest, and are 1-5 in his last six outings following a Quality Start in his last appearance. The Nationals, meanwhile, are 24-10 in Roark’s last 34 starts. They’ve also won 11 of his last 16 outings on the road.
