Triggs allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in Sunday’s loss to the Red Sox. Triggs struck out seven and walked three in what proved to be an at-times trying start. After the A’s drew ahead by a 3-2 score heading into the fifth inning, the 28-year-old right-hander proceeded to surrender RBI hits to Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia to fall behind once more. A subsequent two-run home run by Mitch Moreland in the sixth inning would drive him from the game. This was just the third time in nine starts that Triggs has allowed more than two runs. He will try for the rebound when he carries his 2.77 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into today’s road outing. (Rotoworld)
Pineda pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball in a victory over the Royals on Monday. This makes eight straight starts in which Pineda has allowed no more than three earned runs. He hasn’t excellent every time out, but his only poor outing was his season debut versus the Rays. He’s now 5-2 with a 3.35 ERA.
Bet Today’s A’s vs. Yankees Game
OUR PREDICTION: The A’s are a perfect 4-0 in Triggs’ last four road starts and are a perfect 5-0 in his last five outings following a team loss in their previous game. The A’s are also 5-2 in their last seven games against the American League East and have won six of their last seven games versus a team with a winning record. Despite losing 3-2 yesterday behind some shaking balls-and-strike calls, Oakland is also 4-1 in its last five games in New York.
