Red Sox ready to rip Rockies again?
The calendar hasn’t even flipped to June yet, but it already seems as though the AL East firmly belongs to the Red Sox.
John Farrell’s red-hot club hosts the Rockies tonight, with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Fenway Park. Online sports book BetDSI gives Boston odds of -164 to complete the sweep. Colorado, meanwhile, enters as a +149 underdog. The over/under figure holds steady at 9.5 runs.
Yesterday, Jackie Bradley Jr. spearheaded the charge in a 10-3 blowout. The outfielder’s fourth-inning single extended his MLB-best hitting streak to 29 games. In addition, he’s closing in on Dom DiMaggio’s franchise record, which encompassed 34 contests in 1949.
As the Red Sox (29-17) have won four straight, however, various individuals deserve credit for helping carry the load. David Ortiz is 9 for his last 15 to go along with nine RBIs. Mookie Betts boasts a total of 35 RBIs in 46 tilts atop Farrell’s order. Then there’s Xander Bogaerts, whose current 18-game hitting streak almost lurks under the radar.

Walt Weiss would love to see such production from any of his main sluggers. Nolan Arenado (.274 average in May) and Carlos Gonzalez (.229) continue to sputter, accounting for the Rockies’ (21-24) recent slide. Mark Reynolds owns base knocks in five of his 15 career encounters with this evening’s Boston starter, Clay Buchholz (2-4, 5.92 ERA), though.
The veteran righty probably won’t get through the finale unscathed, but one wonders just how damage the Red Sox can inflict against Jon Gray (1-2, 6.75). Colorado’s top prospect got blasted by the Cardinals in his most recent appearance. The No. 3 selection in the 2013 draft prefers to unleash fastball after fastball, too, which makes for a highly questionable approach vs. Bradley and company.
