Marlins rally for sweep
Miami scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning Thursday afternoon for a 5-2 victory at Detroit, its sixth win in a row. Garrett Cooper hit a grand slam during the big frame to help propel the Marlins to the win. It was his only hit in five at-bats. Jorge Alfaro finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Neil Walker went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Kinley picked up the win in relief as he surrendered one earned run on three hits with no strikeouts or walks in one inning of work. Sergio Romo struck out one in a perfect inning to record his ninth save. Pablo Lopez will start tonight for Miami as he enters with a 3-5 record, 5.06 ERA and 1.17 WHIP plus 49 strikeouts over 48 innings.
Nats swept at Mets
Washington was swept in a four-game series at New York, dropping Thursday afternoon’s finale by a count of 6-4. The Nationals grabbed a 4-3 lead with a three-run top of the eighth inning, but proceeded to allow three runs in the bottom half to fall behind again. Juan Soto finished 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, a walk and two runs in the defeat. Victor Robles was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Yan Gomes was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Wander Suero suffered the loss in relief as he gave up three earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk over one inning. Kyle McGowin will start tonight for Washington as he comes in with a 0-0 record, 6.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with three strikeouts over three innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 17-36 in their last 53 games. Miami is 3-12 in the last 15 Lopez road starts.
Washington
The Nationals are 42-16 in their last 58 home games versus the Marlins. Washington is 8-20 in their last 28 games overall.
Prediction:
Lopez has been pretty darn good this season aside from one poor outing two starts ago. Meanwhile, the Nationals are going to likely be relying on their awful bullpen for a good portion of this game. While it’s hard to trust Miami in any matchup, it is true that it’s playing the best baseball of its season and has the better pitcher on the mound here. Take a shot at the plus money here.
