Can Reds steal one from scorching Mariners?
Following today’s series finale vs. Seattle, Cincinnati will see this round of interleague action come to a merciful end. Rest assured, however, that the road-loving Mariners intend to draw out the misery.
The M’s and Reds clash at 1:10 p.m. ET in the Queen City, with the visitors receiving the lion’s share of handicappers’ love. Online sports book Bovada.lv gives Scott Servais’ club odds of -150 to deal Cincy a seventh straight defeat. Bryan Price’s troops, conversely, enter as +135 underdogs. The over/under total sits at nine runs.
Indeed, Cincinnati hasn’t topped an American League foe since Aug. 24. While the National League Central’s last-place outfit dropped all four tilts against the Indians earlier in the week, though, that home-and-home set put regional pride on the line. Seattle (25-17) simply continues to blow in from the Pacific Northwest with the objective of turning Great American Ballpark into a personal launching pad.
Mission accomplished. Thanks to yesterday’s 4-0 triumph, the Mariners now rock a 17-7 mark away from Safeco Field. Robinson Cano apparently a sidekick in the power department, too, as Franklin Gutierrez keeps developing as a lower-portion-of-the-order threat. The veteran outfielder cranked an absurd 473-foot bomb off John Lamb about 14 hours ago.

Is Wade Miley (4-2, 4.32 ERA) destined to benefit from a similar outburst shortly? The lefty owns four consecutive winning decisions and holds a 3.90 ERA in five meetings with the Reds. He’ll be opposed by the highly erratic Alfredo Simon (1-4, 10.34), who just yielded a career-high 10 runs and 14 hits at Cleveland.
Even if Jay Bruce were healthy, we’d advise bettors to steer clear of Cincinnati (15-28). The slugger’s bum knee, however, makes the decision here abundantly clear. Look for Price’s crew to succumb to the opposition for the 14th time in May.
