Yankees’ Tanaka has rain-shortended start
Masahiro Tanaka was charged with three runs over five innings in Tuesday’s suspended game against the Nationals. Anthony Rendon popped a solo shot off of Tanaka in the first inning and the Nats added two more tallies in the second. Tanaka retired the final 11 batters he faced and had thrown just 72 pitches through five frames, but the game was suspended after a rain delay and he settled for a no-decision. It will be finished Wednesday. Tanaka will take on the Rangers and Angels next week.
Rangers’ Colon logs 7 2/3 scoreless innings against Seattle
Bartolo Colon held the Mariners to four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in the Rangers’ 5-1 victory. The 44-year-old registered three strikeouts in the win. Colon was highly efficient, throwing 71 of his 96 pitches for strikes while limiting the Mariners to just one extra-base hit. The right-hander has cemented his place in the Rangers’ rotation by contributing a lights-out 2.82 ERA over nine outings (seven starts) this year. Colon isn’t a must-own, especially given his low win total (this was just his second win of the season), but he’s definitely gaining traction in deeper fantasy leagues. He’ll be on the hill again Monday versus the Yankees.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 4-0 in Tanaka’s last four starts, are 4-0 in his last four road outings and are 12-3 in his last 15 road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Texas
The Rangers have lost four of their last five games versus American League East opponents and are 1-6 in their last seven games played on Monday.
Prediction:
Colon has been fantastic for the Rangers but he owns a 13.3% strikeout rate against this current Yankees roster over his career and in 75 plate appearances, those Yankee hitters are hitting .333 off Colon. Meanwhile, outside of a 12-run outburst on Saturday, the Rangers offense was horrible in Chicago over the weekend. Despite several favorable pitching matchups, throw out that 12-run game and Texas mustered just five runs in the three other games. Ouch. I’ll take the Yanks on the runline.
The Pick: New York Yankees -1.5
