Marlins to keep rolling in Milwaukee?
Judging by Friday’s result at Miller Park, maybe Miami won’t miss Dee Gordon that much after all.
In their first game without the suspended second baseman, the Marlins claimed a 6-3 triumph over Milwaukee. They’ll shoot for a seventh consecutive win tonight, with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch in the Midwest. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI list the visitors as 1.5-run favorites. The over/under, meanwhile, holds steady at 8.5 runs.
Don Mattingly’s club continued its exemplary run of pitching in the series opener. Miami (11-11) took a combined no-hitter into the ninth inning, and the team’s starters have compiled a 1.65 ERA in the last five games. This evening, Wei-Yin Chen (1-1, 4.32 ERA) gets an opportunity to extend the momentum. The lefty’s permitted seven runs in 20 innings over three starts since surrendering five in five in his first.
The scuffling Brewers (8-14) counter with Chase Anderson (1-2, 4.50), who bombed in an appearance against Philadelphia last weekend. Craig Counsell’s third-year hurler gave up six runs in four frames of a 10-6 defeat. He’s made through at least six innings, though, in each of his three turns vs. the Fish.

Even so, it’s hard to argue against Miami at the moment. The Marlins are coming off a contest in which they racked up 10 base knocks without Giancarlo Stanton (maintenance day). There’s no guarantee that Mattingly will get another multi-hit effort out of the leadoff spot, but perhaps this youthful nucleus. is better equipped to handle its leadoff man’s 80-game ban for using performance-enhancing substances than many anticipated. Bank on the group to take seven in a row for the first time since 2012.
