San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Hunter Renfroe slugged a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning as part of Friday’s 4-3 victory over the Nationals. Renfroe entered the game to play right field in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Carter Kieboom delivered the game-tying homer for the Nationals, Renfroe put the Padres ahead for good in the ninth by taking Sean Doolittle deep. The 27-year-old had just two hits in his last 27 at-bats coming into Friday’s action, so he needed a moment like this. Perhaps it will get him going again from a power perspective.
Washington Nationals Fantasy Spin
Carter Kieboom muscled a game-tying solo homer against the Padres in his major league debut on Friday. Kieboom went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts on the night. His 400-foot blast off former Nationals hurdler Craig Stammen tied things up in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the eighth, but the Padres pulled away again in the ninth and Washington was unable to fight back. In fact, Kieboom struck out with the bases loaded to end the ballgame. Kieboom made the start at shortstop on Friday and figures to get more opportunities while Trea Turner is sidelined. Prior to the promotion, the 21-year-old was batting 379/.506/.636 batting line with three home runs, 18 RBI, one stolen base, and 14 runs scored through 18 games in Triple-A this year. He might not be up for good, but he’s worthy of consideration in mixed leagues as long as the playing time is there.
