New York Mets Fantasy Spin
Michael Conforto collected his fifth home run Wednesday in New York’s loss to the Phillies. Conforto was responsible for two of the Mets’ seven hits in Wednesday’s defeat. He put an end to Jake Arrieta’s shutout bid in the seventh by wrapping a 385-foot blast around the right-field foul pole for his second homer in as many days. Conforto had a chance to really stick it to the Phillies with two on in the ninth but flew out harmlessly to right field. The 26-year-old has always been a thorn in Philadelphia’s side with 16 lifetime homers against them including 11 at Citizen’s Bank Park. Conforto will put his five-game hitting streak on the line Friday when the Mets open a three-game set in St. Louis.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Marcell Ozuna clobbered his eighth homer Wednesday as the Cardinals held on for a 6-3 win over the Brewers. He opened the scoring for St. Louis by slaughtering a towering leadoff homer in the second, getting every bit of Corbin Burnes’ 95-mph fastball. Ozuna didn’t hit a lick the rest of the afternoon, though he did draw a walk in the third inning. Coming off a disappointing debut season for the Cardinals, Ozuna has found his power stroke early by providing eight homers including six in his last six games. He’s also tied for seventh in the league with 16 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 1-4 in their last five road games versus St. Louis.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 5-1 in Adam Wainwright’s last six starts versus the Mets.
Prediction:
Vargas has only made two starts but those two starts have been a disaster. He has more walks than strikeouts this season and is allowing a 63% hard contact rate. He’s one of the more hittable pitchers in baseball and I plan to take advantage of his starts before he’s inevitably replaced. Matt Carpenter, Paul Goldschmidt, Ozuna, Yadier Molina and the underrated Jose Martinez should have a field day tonight.
The Pick: Cardinals Team Total OVER 4.5 Runs (-135)
