Astros end skid
Houston put an end to a three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over the Mariners. The Astros have still won just two of their last seven games. Houston is 11-7 overall and 5-4 on the road. Houston is putting up 4 runs per game this season while allowing only 2.89 per contest.
Gerrit Cole will get the start for the Astros today. He is making his fourth start of the season and has reached seven innings in all three previous starts. He has a 1.29 ERA with just a 0.67 WHIP. Cole has recorded 36 strikeouts with just four walks.
Mariners struggling at the plate
Following the 4-1 loss on Tuesday, the Mariners have been held to just four total runs over their last three games. Seattle is now just 9-6 on the season and 5-3 at home. The Mariners are putting up 4.33 runs per game on the season while allowing 4.47 per contest.
Mike Leake gets the start for the Mariners tonight. He is 2-0 through three starts with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Leake has just eight strikeouts with nine walks over 18 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 14-5 in their last 19 games against division opponents and 8-2 in their last 10 games against a starter with a WHIP over 1.30.
Seattle
The Mariners are 5-11 in their last 16 games after scoring two runs or less in their previous game. They are also just 2-6 in their last eight Game 3’s in a series.
Prediction:
Cole has been tremendous on the mound so far this season and he gets to face a Seattle lineup that has gone cold. I don’t see the Mariners coming out of that funk tonight. Leake hasn’t been bad, but he has a much higher WHIP than Cole and that’s likely to lead to a run or two.
The Pick: Houston Astros -180
