St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Jose Martinez went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in the Cardinals’ 11-7 victory over the Dodgers on Thursday. The Cards gave both Dexter Fowler and Marcell Ozuna today off, allowing them to find room for Martinez and Tyler O’Neill, who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Ozuna won’t sit often, but it seems likely that Martinez and O’Neill will begin getting more starts over the struggling Fowler. Martinez might get enough time to make him worth using in mixed leagues. Still, we’d feel better about his chances if not for O’Neill’s presence.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Eugenio Suarez went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as the Reds shut out the Marlins 5-0 on Thursday. Sonny Gray left this one after four innings, but four Reds relievers combined to finish the five-hitter. Suarez is 11-for-31 with three homers in April after going 0-for-6 in two games in March.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won 42 of Adam Wainwright’s last 62 starts and are 37-16 in his last 53 outings when facing National League Central opponents.
Cincinnati
The Reds are just 8-20 in their last 28 games overall.
Prediction:
Wainwright struck out nine batters in a win over the Padres last Sunday. It was a total reversal from his poor showing in Pittsburgh the week prior, although the cold weather at PNC Park made it hard for Wainwright to find his grip. The Cardinals are currently on a five-game winning streak, which includes a four-game sweep of the previously red-hot Dodgers at Busch Stadium. Even if Wainwright struggles a bit, the Cardinals’ bullpen has been lights out all week. At -124 on the money line, the 8-5 Cards offer bettors some value.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -124
