Hanley Ramirez drove in the Indians’ lone run Wednesday in a loss to Detroit. Ramirez’s first and only hit of the afternoon came in the sixth inning when he laced a two-out double off Detroit hurler Matthew Boyd. Leonys Martin scored from second on the play, cutting the deficit to 2-1, though the Tigers would add two more later in the frame. Ramirez reached again in the eighth, working a two-out walk against Joe Jimenez. The 35-year-old has underwhelmed in the early going, hitting just .222 with 11 punch-outs in 27 at-bats.
Detroit Tigers Fantasy Spin
Niko Goodrum slugged a two-run homer as part of a two-hit performance Wednesday as the Tigers defeated the Indians 4-1. Goodrum staked Detroit to an early 2-0 advantage by launching a 369-foot missile off Trevor Bauer with two outs in the first inning. The round-tripper was Goodrum’s first since September 3 of last year. He also singled in the third and walked in the fifth but was stranded on both occasions. The 27-year-old owns a respectable .289/.413/.526 triple slash through 12 appearances and is also tied for third in the majors with six doubles this year.
