Rockies Season Odds
The Colorado Rockies are looking to rekindle the same magic this season that allowed them to make their first ever World Series appearance two years ago.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Rockies 75/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series and established their National League Pennant odds at 30/1.
The Rockies still have some of the better offensive talent in the National League with Garrett Atkins, Brad Hawpe, Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton leading the way. But they lost a significant piece to their lineup when the front office traded outfielder Matt Holliday to the Oakland A’s in the offseason.
Colorado needs its starting pitching to come through this season if they’re going to not only compete for a World Series or National League Pennant, but in their division. They lost Jeff Francis for the season when he underwent arthroscopic surgery in the offseason to repair his labrum and clean up the rotator cuff in his left shoulder. That means guys like Aaron Cook, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jason Marquis, Greg Smith and Jorge De La Rosa to step up.
Nobody thought the Rockies would even sniff a World Series appearance two years ago, but they did and they proved that “the little guy” could compete in the postseason. So don’t be completely scared off by the 75/1 odds. In fact, embrace it if you think the Rockies’ starting pitching will be better than everyone expects.
