Tigers Season Odds
The Detroit Tigers are hoping that their 2009 season will match their 2007 season (the one that ended in a World Series appearance) and not the injury-marred campaign of 2008.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Tigers 25/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series and have set their American League Pennant odds at 10/1.
The Tigers need several things to go right for them this season if they’re planning on making a run, first of which is staying healthy. This club was beat up for most of last year and it showed as Detroit essentially sunk to the bottom of the AL Central Division and stayed there.
The lineup is powerful, with MVP-caliber first basemen Miguel Cabrera leading the way and supported by a slew of quality hitters in Magglio Ordonez, Curtis Granderson and Carlos Gullien. But the pitching staff will be key in whether or not the Tigers compete for an American League Pennant title, nevertheless the World Series.
Ace Justin Verlander struggled mightily last year, but if he can bounce back, the rotation offers a couple of nice young arms in Edwin Jackson and Rick Porcello. The bullpen also has to come through, especially the closers, whether it’s Fernando Rodney or Brandon Lyon. Regardless, this team could surprise this year if the pitching holds up because the offense is stacked.
