Giants’ 2015 MLB Season Odds
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – Following their third World Series title in five years, the Giants’ over/under for wins has been set at just 83.5 for 2015.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Giants are 18/1 to win the 2016 World Series and are 8/1 to win the NL pennant in 2015. They’re also 7/2 to win the NL West Division after winning the World Series last year as one of the two wild card teams.
The Giants suffered a huge loss in free agency when Pablo Sandoval reportedly took less money to sign with the Boston Red Sox. Sandoval said the decision was easy based on how San Francisco GM Brian Sabean approached re-signing Sandoval last year. The Giants will attempt to fill the shoes of Sandoval with Casey McGehee, who was acquired via a trade with the Marlins.
Speaking of the Marlins, 2014 slugger Michael Morse signed with Miami after spending just one season with the Giants. To help compensate for the loss in the outfield, San Fran added former Royal Nori Aoki, who will have to play right field for at least the first month of the season after Hunter Pence suffered a broken bone in his arm during a spring training game. Along with Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Angel Pagan and Joe Panik, Pence will once again need to be a key contributor for the Giants offensively if they have any shot at repeating as champs.
As far as pitching is concerned, the Giants return ace Madison Bumgarner, who was an easy choice for World Series MVP last fall. He’ll head a rotation that has age (Jake Peavy, Tim Hudson, Ryan Vogelsong), injury (Matt Cain) and productivity (Tim Lincecum) concerns heading into the regular season. At least the bullpen, which consists of Santiago Casilla, Sergio Romo, Yusmeiro Petit, Jeremy Affeldt and Javier Lopez, remains a strength.
