Papelbon trade talks still alive?
PHILADELPHIA, PA (The Spread) – Will the Phillies trade closer Jonathan Papelbon before the season?
Two weeks ago it seemed likely that Papelbon would be pitching elsewhere in 2015 and yet he remains a Phillie at the moment. There were several reports that he would wind up in Milwaukee but discussions between the Phillies and Brewers have cooled down.
But Amaro said Monday that trade talks involving Papelbon are “still alive.”
“We’re still having discussion — and not just with one club,” Amaro said.
CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury says that talks with the Brewers “are ongoing and have been for some time.” Apparently the biggest hurdle between Milwaukee and Philadelphia coming to a deal is Papelbon’s $13 million option for 2016. The closer would like that option picked up in order to facilitate a trade.
