Reds sign Mesoraco, 50/1 to win WS
CINCINNATI, OH (The Spread) – The Reds have re-signed catcher Devin Mesoraco to a four-year, $28 million contract extension.
The deal buys out all three of Mesoraco’s arbitration years as well as his first year of free agency. He hit .273 with 25 home runs in 114 games last season and with more at bats he could be in store for an even better year in 2015.
Mesoraco also posted the highest OPS of any major league catcher last year at .893. At this price, he’s considered a value and it was wise of Cincinnati to lock him up through his prime years.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Reds are currently 50/1 long shots to win the 2015 World Series. The Cardinals and Cubs have the best odds within the NL Central at 12/1, respectively, to win the Fall Classic while the Pirates are 33/1 and the Brewers are 50/1.
