Giants re-sign Ryan Vogelsong
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – The Giants welcomed back a familiar face this weekend when they re-signed pitcher Ryan Vogelsong to a one-year deal.
Vogelsong was being courted by the Houston Astros before he decided on familiarity over a starting role. There’s no guarantee that he’ll be the Giants’ fifth starter by the time the regular season starts, but there’s still a chance that he’ll see plenty of action throughout the year.
With Madison Bumgarner taking on a massive workload in the regular season and playoffs last year, plus Matt Cain coming off an injury-plagued 2014, Vogelsong could be used as a spot starter to give other starters rest. Jake Peavy and Tim Hudson (ankle surgery) aren’t spring chickens either and Tim Lincecum has been a mess for over three years now so Vogelsong should get work.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the defending champs are currently 20/1 long shots to win the 2015 World Series. In terms of the odds, that puts the Giants behind several teams including the Nationals, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs, Angels and Cardinals, among others.
