Scherzer signing offical for Nats
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Spread) – On Wednesday the Nationals made their signing of free agent pitcher Max Scherzer official and the team is currently favored to win the World Series.
The Nationals officially signed Scherzer to a seven-year, $210 million contract. Half of Scherzer’s contract is deferred through 2028, making the value of his deal slightly less than the total value but the ace nevertheless cashed in on his free agent status. In his last two seasons, Scherzer is 39-8 with a 3.02 ERA and a 492/119 K/BB radio over 434 2/3 innings.
Scherzer will team up with Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister in what is arguably the best starting rotation in all of baseball. Tanner Roark is currently on the outside looking in but with how well he pitched last season, the Nationals could be forced to move a guy like Zimmermann either before or during the season. Zimmermann and Fister are both free agents following the 2015 season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are now 11/2 to win the 2015 World Series, which gives them the best odds in all of baseball. The Dodgers have the next-best odds at 8/1 while the Red Sox, Cubs, Angels and Cardinals are all 12/1, respectively.
