Nationals now favored to win WS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Spread) – After landing the biggest name left on the free agent market, the Nationals are now favored to win the 2015 World Series.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Nationals and free agent Max Scherzer have agreed to a seven-year contract. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal believes that the deal will be worth more than $180 million and run through Scherzer’s age-36 season in 2021.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are now 6/1 to win the 2015 World Series, making them the favorites this season. They opened at 8/1 to win the Fall Classic but their odds dropped to 10/1 before climbing to 6/1, which is where those odds currently sit.
The Nationals now have one of the most feared starting rotations in baseball. Their current rotation consists of Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Doug Fister and Jordan Zimmermann, although Zimmermann could be moved to make room for Tanner Roark.
