Ryder Cup - Points for Furyk

After winning the 2010 FedEx Cup last weekend, Jim Furyk now turns his attention to helping lead the United States to a win in the 2010 Ryder Cup.

In the Ryder Cup, each individual player has the opportunity to win a maximum of 5 points and that is only if they play during all five portions of the competition. A player can earn a point by winning any of the four team events and also a point in the individual match play on Sunday.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Furyk has an even betting line to score more than 2 points in the Ryder Cup while having odds of +120 to score less than 2 points and a line of +550 to score exactly 2.

Furyk, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, has competed in six previous Ryder Cups, playing a total of 24 matches in that time. His record in those matches is 8-13-3 for a total of 9.5 points, which is an average of 1.58 points per Ryder Cup.

Furyk has struggled in team play, especially fourball, where he is 1-7-1 all-time. He has been solid in individual match play, going 4-1-1.

It is unclear how U.S. captain Corey Pavin will use Furyk during the event. It is not certain that Furyk will play in all five matches despite being highly ranked. There is a chance Furyk could be partnered with Tiger Woods during the two-day team stretch as the two are close friends.
