Every year, the top golfers in the world contend in the four major championships. Those are The Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship.

In no surprise, Tiger Woods has the shortest odds to win a major according to online sportsbook Sportsbook.com. Woods has 6/5 odds to win a major this year. Other short odds to win are Phil Mickelson (7/2), Lee Westwood (4/1), Rory McIlroy (5/1), and Dustin Johnson (5/1).

Woods hasn’t won a major championship since the 2008 U.S. Open. It is the tied for the longest stretch since he won his first major in 1997. With most of his personal problems behind him, many feel Woods will get back to winning in 2011.

Mickelson has won four majors in his career, three of them are the Masters. He has only won one in the last four years though, and has struggled in the British Open and PGA Championship recently.

Westwood has never won a major championship, but he has finished in the top 3 in four of the last 5 majors he has played in. Westwood overtook Woods for No. 1 in the world rankings to end 2010.

McIlroy hasn’t won a major championship in his career but he finished third in the last two majors of the 2010 season. He also missed the cuts in the first two majors of 2010.

Johnson has only played in nine majors in his career, but he finished in the top 10 in three of them. He finished in the top 10 in two of the last three and was a penalty away from playing in a playoff for the PGA Championship title.

The first major of 2011 is the Masters, which takes place April 7-10 from Augusta National Golf Club.
