ABU DHABI (TheSpread) – Some of the world’s top golfers will compete in the 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, beginning on Thursday. Here is a look at the odds for this tournament.

According to oddsmakers, both Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer are favored to win the event, as each has 13/2 odds. Other short odds to win are Tiger Woods (8/1), Lee Westwood (12/1), and Luke Donald (12/1).

Kaymer is the defending champion of this event and he has won in three of the last four years. Last year, Kaymer set the tournament record by shooting 24-under par and winning by eight strokes. Kaymer is playing in his first event of the year and he had two wins in 2011.

McIlroy is third in the world rankings and he has finished 11th or better in his last seven tournament. He had two wins last year and is playing in his first event of 2012. He finished second in this event last year and third in 2010.

Woods is 25th in the world rankings, but coming off his first win since 2009 to end the 2011 season. Woods hasn’t played in this event in its recent history, but he has placed in the top three in his last two tournaments.

Westwood is second in the world rankings. He also is coming into his first tournament of the new year but he has two wins in his last three events. Westwood had a total of four wins in 2011. Westwood finished 64th in this tournament last year and he missed the cut in 2010.

Donald is first in the world golf rankings. He has finished 18th or better in his last 13 tournaments. Donald had four wins in the 2011 season and he is making his first appearance in a tournament in 2012. Donald has not taken part in this tournament in recent history.

The 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is played at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and will begin on Thursday, Jan. 26 and finish up on Sunday, Jan. 29. For complete odds for each golfer at the event, see below.
