Free Picks: Service Plays for Wednesday, August 13

Wednesday's comp play is for another low-scoring game in Arlington between the Rays and the Rangers.

Last night these teams went 14 long innings before it was decided at 3-2 in favor of Texas, as the game held easily Under the posted price.

Tampa Bay has now set a record in the American League, as they have allowed 3 runs or fewer in 16 straight road games.

The Rays have also played each of their last 4 games Under the posted price, with the Under standing at 6-1-1 overall their last 8 games contests.

The Rangers are not too far behind, as Texas is on a 7-2-1 Under clip their last 10 times on the diamond.

Chris Archer and Miles Mikolas hit the bump, Archer making his first ever start in Arlington, while Mikolas comes in with an improved 3 runs in his last 12 innings under his belt.

Let's call for a low-scoring game in this one.

3♦ TAMPA BAY-TEXAS UNDER

Play: Marlins -113

I really like the Miami Marlins in this game vs the St. Louis Cardinals...the Fish are one game below .500 and are looking to make a run here in the second half of the season while some of the NL leaders are struggling...J.Masterson has really struggled since coming over from the Indians and is 0-2 in two starts...he really hasn't found his form this entire season and I think he is going to really struggle vs this Fish lineup that is really swinging it...N.Eovaldi is coming into this game off his best start of the season and he is facing a Cards lineup that is struggling to score runs.

Rays / Rangers Under 9

It is easy to see why tonight’s total is so high considering The HOME ERA of tonight’s Texas starter (above 13) is a disaster.  However Miles Mikolas is finally showing signs of getting his act together surrendering only THREE runs in the last pair of assignments combined. Last night turned into a 14 inning marathon which was low scoring (3-2 final score).  The various Texas pitchers involved (6 in all) set a FRANCHISE RECORD going the most innings WITHOUT issuing a single walk.  Despite the intense heat this time of the year the home ballpark at Texas is not even close to being a homerun haven.  In fact so far in the initial pair of games during this series there have been ZERO homers clearing the fence.  On the mound tonight for Tampa is the sizzling hot Chris Archer (1.95 ROAD ERA past four on the highway) who has delivered QUALITY starts in 11 of the past 15 mound assignments where opposing batters have a very low collective average (.221) against him. Tonight he faces a Rangers lineup that has the FEWEST extra-base hits in the entire American League. Slugger Adrian Beltre is just 1-for-6 when facing Archer

Tampa Bay Rays -150

Archer has been solid while Mikolas has been absolutely pitiful for the Rangers especially at home giving up 20 earned runs in his last 3 starts in less than 14 innings of work. Look for the Rays to hammer out some runs here and get this win as the play of the day.
