Re: 2014 PGA RBC Heritage Odds To Win: Three Golfers Favored By Oddsmakers

Spieth made RBC favorite
By Sportsbook.ag

Tournament: RBC Heritage
Date: Apr. 17-20, 2014
Venue: Harbour Town Golf Links
Location: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
2013 Winner: Graeme McDowell

Following up a thrilling Masters weekend, the PGA heads to South Carolina for one of the five invitational tournaments, the RBC Heritage. This tournament’s past champions are impressive, as the list includes Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer and Payne Stewart all topping the leaderboard at some point.

The par 71, 7,101-yard course was taken over by Graeme McDowell last season as he shot 9-under par and defeated Webb Simpson on the first playoff hole.

While this tournament has boasted some big names in the past, this year’s installment will only have seven of the top-20 players from the World Golf Rankings in the field with Jason Day being the top committed player.

Let’s take a look at some of the golfers that have a chance to shine amongst this below-average field in this week’s invitational.

Golfers to Watch

Jordan Spieth (29/2):
The 20-year-old could not handle the pressure of having the lead on Sunday at The Masters this past weekend, but proved once again that he is ready to be in the spotlight with a runner-up performance. Spieth also did well at this course last year with a ninth-place finish. Spieth gets a birdie or better on 20.2% of par-4’s (4th on tour) and should be able to use that to his advantage this weekend.

Matt Kuchar (15/1): Kuchar just keeps playing well and has three straight top-5 finishes while placing fifth at Augusta. Overall on the season, he has finished in the top-10 in 7-of-11 events while putting up a scoring average of 69.74 (6th on tour). Kuchar has not done better than 21st over the past three attempts at this tourney, but he is at the top of his game and should be able to conquer any course at this point.

Graeme McDowell (22/1): McDowell won this tournament last year while shooting 69 or better in three of the four rounds. He had placed in the top-10 in six of his first seven PGA events this season before missing the cut at The Masters, but leads the tour in strokes gained-putting (1.19) and is successful 69.4% of the time he putts from 5 to 10 feet (best on tour). His putter could take him to the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.

Jim Furyk (19/1): Furyk is another former winner at this tournament when he shot a solid 13-under par and defeated Brian Davis in a one-hole playoff back in 2010. He had another top-10 finish (8th) in this tourney in 2012 and is playing very competitive golf at the age of 43, with three top-8 finishes already this season.

Boo Weekley (100/1): This is one of Weekley’s favorite courses to play, as evidenced by his two victories there (2007, 2008) and three top-13 finishes since; including placing 6th in 2012. This season has not been great for him though, with only one finish better than 22nd, but he ranks 7th in greens in regulation (71.0%) and is 10th in driving accuracy (70.9%). He should feel confident on this course and the triple-digit longshot could pay great dividends if he can earn his third career victory at this tournament.
