The Heat will most likely be without D-Wade so the line is dropping. However Miami has won and covered on several occasion without him. Last year they beat the Spurs in San Antonio without Lebron or Wade. Tonight they fit a powerful road warrior system that plays on road favorites with a win percentage of .690 or higher vs an opponent with a win percentage under .300 if both teams are off wins. Long term this system with a subset or two hits over 85%. Miami blasted the Pistons last night and will not be slowed down with no rest here. The Heat are 14-4 ats on the road when the total is 200 to 205 and the Bucks are 6-18 ats at home in that totals range. Miami has covered 6 of the last 7 in the series and 4 of the last 5 here. Look for Miami to turn up the Heat tonight.

This is a terrible situational spot for Detroit, a bad road team and the second of a back to back spot after hosting the defending champion Heat and LeBron James last night. The Pistons are 0-5 ATS in their last five vs. the Eastern Conference heading into last night's contest. Philadelphia has been so bad oddsmakers have been forced to overcompensate and the 76ers have not been winning games, but they have been covering the Las Vegas number, on a 4-1 ATS run. This is a good situational spot for Philadelphia, home and rested after a three-game road trip, the last two through the dreaded Texas Triangle, at San Antonio and Houston. The 76ers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. the Eastern Conference. And when these teams meet the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

The Hawks take on Washington in the nation's capitol with revenge from a 20-point loss knowing they are 19-4 SU the last twenty-three games in this series. With the Wizards in off a revenge game with Indiana last night, and looking dead ahead to another revenge game with Charlotte on Monday, the points become the play here tonight. We recommend a 1-unit play on Atlanta.

The Houston Rockets have been playing some good ball of late and will look at this game as a chance exact double revenge on the Clippers who have won the last two in this series. The Rockets come off a 120-98 beat down of Philadelphia on Thursday. James Harden led the way with 26 points and 10 assists while Dwight Howard notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, the LA Clippers were able to bounce back from a bad loss at New Orleans to beat Dallas 109-103 on Thursday night. Chris Paul led his team with 31 points and nine assists. Looking at this matchup, the Rockets come in having won five straight while covering the spread in four of those games. he Rockets have averaged 118.2 points on 52.0 percent shooting and 41 percent from beyond the arc during the five-game win streak. They've also put up 118.0 points per game with roughly those same shooting percentages over their last nine at Toyota Center. Houston’s home court has been very strong this season in general with a 24-7 mark. The Clippers meanwhile are merely just 20-17 on the road. Look for Houston to exact some revenge here on a road tripping Clippers team and consider laying the short points.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Washington Wizards
Play: Atlanta Hawks +4½
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
I think the Wizards will have a letdown here after their big 91-78 win over the Pacers last night. With the win, the Wizards have essentially assured themselves a place in the postseason.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Washington sits just 1.5 games behind the Nets for fifth place, but it has 7.5 games between it and the ninth-place Knicks.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
As good as the Wizards looked last night, note that sharp-shooter Bradley Beal continues to struggle, finishing with seven points on 2 of 13 shooting vs. Indiana. Beal was just 3 of 11 in Washington’s loss to the Suns on Wednesday.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Atlanta would love nothing more than to take advantage of the Wizards complacency and to salvage one of the three games in the season series, the Wizards taking the first two.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Hawks need to keep the pedal on the metal as they sit in eighth-place in the East, with just a two-game edge over New York.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
There’s no question that Atlanta has been a diaster for bettors this year, failing miserably in almost every single ATS statistical category there is, however take note that this is in fact a position that it’s fared well in, 7-6 ATS in revenging a home loss vs. an opponent.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
And note that Washington is a poor 3-4 ATS this season as a home fav in the 3.5 to 6 points range.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Atlanta has really struggled of late, but as a situational handicapper, these are exactly the types of contests that I keep my eyes open for. I think the visitors have a real shot at winning this one outright, or at the very least to keep it close enough to sneak in through the back door with the points they’ve been afforded.

It's getting a little tense in the "Big D." The Mavericks are fighting for their playoff lives, now a half-game behind Memphis for the 8th and final spot in the west. Dallas was hoping for bigger things on their current 8-game home-stand. They're 3-3 SU thus far, making this game of major importance. While Golden State is up next, it's not until Tuesday and thanks to their 50-50 record six games into it, the game against Sacramento is just as important as the contest with the Warriors. Dallas is getting "just what the doctor ordered" tonight, beating Sacto 17 straight times at home (13-4 ATS). The Kings are hamstrung (more than normal). There's a bug traveling around the locker-room according to reports and Isaiah Thomas is questionable with a quad injury. Even if Thomas gives it a go, he's reportedly far from 100%. Besides their dominance over the Kings in Dallas, the Mavs are also on a 38-13 ATS run off a SU loss and they have covered 35 of their last 52 against teams with a losing record. Big game for the Mavs and I believe they'll come through with the wide margin win. I'm recommending a play on Dallas minus the points on Saturday.

INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
It’s hard to believe how many close games there have been in this year’s NCAA Tournament. If anyone wanted proof that there’s a good deal of parity in the game right now, the results this year are speaking loudly and clearly. Friday night’s quartet of games were nothing short of phenomenal, and I can see more of the same taking place today.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
I think we’re in for another thriller as Wisconsin tangles with Arizona in an Elite 8 duel at Anaheim. If you’re going clearly off the season stats, there’s a definite edge for the Wildcats. But we’ve already seen time and again that those numbers aren’t proving reliable this time around when it comes to picking winners. I suspect more of the same takes place here.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
There are a couple of factors I’m keying on here. One is the grit that we’re seeing out of Wisconsin. The Badgers are playing some awesome defense. Aside from the first half of the Oregon game, Wisconsin is shutting down the opposition. Obviously, the Badgers will have to be at their defensive best today if they hope to advance.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The other variable that comes into play here is the Arizona foul shooting. If the ‘Cats are as proficient here as they were against San Diego State and Gonzaga, that’s good news for them. But this is not a good FT team, and if they revert to what is their norm, it could be a potentially major issue late in the game.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Wisconsin does not qualify as a defensive dog today, as Arizona is actually better on that count. But the Badgers are in lockdown mode right now, and I really can’t see Arizona getting many easy baskets today.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
I think the number on this game is precisely where it ought to be, so this isn’t a value spot. Also, just off the numbers that I use, I come up with Arizona -4.5, so I’m basically going against that data here.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
My bottom line is that this is one of those events where everything seems to be in doubt right till the finish. Specifically, this game has that feel to it as well. I’m not going to be stunned if Arizona proves to be a little too good for the Badgers, but I feel the Badgers in their current form can play with anyone. I’m siding with Wisconsin plus the points.

Arizona did not play their best, but survived against San Diego State on Thursday night to make it to the Elite Eight once again, but I like Wisconsin to knock off the number one seed in the region. The Badgers are rolling right now. Wisconsin sliced up Baylor on Thursday night shooting over fifty percent from the floor and they also out rebounded the Bears. Wisconsin poses a lot of problems for Arizona as they have multiple players, even their big men, that can step out and shoot the ball. Wisconsin does not have many big name players but they are a very talented team with experienced upper classmen like Frank Kaminsky and Ben Brust who find ways to get it done. Take the points.

This is the night where the streak ends. Detroit is coming off facing Miami on Frirday night and they've been dreadful lately. Maybe not 26 straight losses dreadful, but the Pistons are playing out the string after winning just two of their last 10 and three of their last 16. They've also lost four straight in their second straight game in two nights. The Sixers have covered four of their last six. The streak is coming to an end.

Since January 25th Dayton has lost just three games, and ALL THREE have come against St Josephs. With that in mind we compared the way the Gators and the Hawks play to find out if Florida was a great deal similar to SJU and thus shared the big time matchup edge that Martelli's team clearly had over the Flyers. The examination showed a couple of small factors that SJU and Florida shared, but in style and pace of play they were not terribly similar, and that tells us that Dayton should not be flummoxed style wise in this one. That led us to a look at some stats and tournament history, and those also both favored Dayton. Note that UD is 9-2 ATS as an underdog this year, 5-0 SU & ATS vs the SEC of late, and 4-1 SU/ATS vs teams of this defensive class. Also, cannot ignore that Florida has lost in this round in each of the previous three seasons, or that since 2003 there have been five teams that have mad the Elite Eight as #8 seeds or higher, and those teams are 4-1 SU & 5-0 ATS, with the only loss coming by Davidson in 2008, and they lost by just two points! Wichita State (9) did it last year, VCU (11) in 2011, Butler (8) also in 2011, and George Mason (11) in 2006. All in all we think Florida wins this games and advances, but it will be closer than this big spread indicates, so we will take the points.

I know Dayton has been a big Cinderella story in this tournament but that comes to a crashing end tonight against the top ranked Gators. Florida has won all 3 games in this tournament rather easily with their only non cover coming in the first round as 21 point favorites. They are on a mission to win this tournament and their defense is a full 10 ppg better than the Flyers defense. Lay this number with the Gators.

Yes - I hear the wailing at this play but this has everything to do with professional embarrassment. There is NO WAY the 76ers want to set the record for worst record or most losses in a row and they know this is their best shot at a win the rest of the season. They will give their best effort and they catch the Pistons on a 3rd game in 4 nights after playing at home last night against the defending champion Heat. Look for an inspired effort here from Philly to get this cover if not the outright win.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Saturday, March 29

Scott Delaney

My free play for Saturday is on the Houston Rockets laying short chalk to the Los Angeles Clippers, who are in two days after scoring a road upset of the Dallas Mavericks.

I'm pretty intrigued to see the point-guard matchup between Chris Paul and Jeremy Lin. Both are linchpins in their respective lineups, and truth is, the one who has the more effective game could be the one who leads his team to a victory.

Normally I would be siding with the Clippers and Paul in most point-guard chatter, but I have to say, at home and with his team on a five-game winning streak, I like Lin in this situation.

Lin's average of 8.7 points on 39.1 percent shooting against the Clippers this season seems bleak, but make note he played well against them as a starter last season, averaging 18.3 points on 48.8 percent shooting. I think since we're down the home stretch here, we're about to see some big numbers from Lin.

For the Rockets' sake, that better be the case, as we have the top two scoring teams - the Clippers being No. 1 and Houston falling in at No. 2.

I also expect to see James Harden get into shape for this one, as he too has struggled against the Clippers this season. Both he and Lin are crucial to the Rockets' lineup and they need to prove their worth in the midst of this win streak, against a potential playoff opponent that has been tabbed as top contender.

Take the home chalk.

Your Saturday freebie is the Houston Rockets to end their losing streak to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Houston has been on the wrong side of things against Los Angeles in all 3 meetings this season both straight up and against the spread, and they have also lost 8 of the last 9 meetings overall to the Clippers.

That changes tonight at home, as Houston enters play this Saturday having won 5 straight, while covering in 4 of the 5 wins. The Rockets are also riding an 11 game home court winning streak that has seen them cover 3 in a row and 5 of their last 6 at the Toyota Center.

The Clippers have dropped 2 of their last 3 away from the Staples Center, so I am calling for the Rockets to get the monkey off their back in this home game on Saturday night.

Houston gets on board in the season series with the win and cover.

Free play of the day on the Dallas Mavericks over Sacramento as they hope to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Way too much talent on this Dallas team for them to be struggling behind Phoenix and Memphis for the final spots in the playoff race, but that's what happens when you blow home leads vs. the Clippers and T'Wolves in a week.

Beating the Thunder two out of the three shows me they more than have enough talent to get the playoffs and possibly make some noise, but losing games they shouldn't lose is ultimately do them in.

I think they played themselves out of the playoffs when they blew a 10-point 4th quarter lead vs. the Clippers Thursday night. Absolutely unacceptable and completely ridiculous for that to happen, but it is what it is and now they have a LOT of work to do.

It starts tonight vs. a team they should beat by 30, but if they don't take it seriously, they could find themselves too far out of the playoff race... and I don't think that's going to happen (yet).

Take the Mavs to slaughter the Kings... with or without Isaiah Thomas as your free play of the day.

My free play for today is going to be on the Over in the Western Conference clash between the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings, as I think the third meeting is about to be very interesting.

Why the Mavericks will help push this total high - Dallas is in after a tough-to-swallow loss to the Los Angeles Clippers two nights back and is now behind Phoenix in the Western Conference standings, for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Mavericks' biggest problem has been maintaining a lead, and so once they catch a groove tonight, I expect them to keep the pedal floored in this one, and never let up.

Why the Kings will be able to help this one over - Sacramento won the first meeting and held a 14-point, third-quarter lead in the second game. The Kings may not be near as good as the Mavericks, and certainly doesn't have as much to play for, but they'll arrive in Big D with enough confidence to hang with the Mavericks and challenge for the outright. There's no telling if they can stay inside the number as the game closes, but it'll be a fun shootout.

In conclusion, why the OVER is my SMART PLAY in this game - These two tend to put on a high-scoring show, as 13 of the last 16 meetings in Dallas have gone over, and 41 of the last 58 meetings have soared past the number. More recently, seven of the last eight meetings have gone over.

Dallas will force the issue, the Kings will answer and the the Mavericks won't worry about stopping Sacramento, as much as they'll be looking to outscore their guest. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one get into the 220s, as the Mavericks will be fired up to avenge Thursday's loss to the Clippers.

Play this one high.

Dallas, which is 3-3 on its current eight-game homestand following Thursday’s loss to the Clippers, has fallen one-half game behind Phoenix for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference and has very little margin for error over its remaining nine games if it hopes to make the playoffs.

Two days after the loss to Los Angeles, I think the Mavericks will be out to release a little aggression, and there might be no better opponent to do so against. Dallas has won six of the last seven meetings.

These two have split two games this season, which isn't a bad thing, as Dallas knows to expect another fight. The Mavs fell the Kings in Sacramento, 112-97, back on Dec. 9. Then, on Jan. 31, the Mavericks were once again pushed to the brink before rallying in the third quarter to negate a 14-point deficit to earn a 107-103 home win.

Dallas comes in on a long-standing 38-13 ATS win streak after a straight-up loss, and has covered nine of 13 in intraconference play. The home team also rides in on a 9-3 ATS win streak. Let's lay the chalk in this game.
