Game of the Day: Maple Leafs at Kings
By Covers.com

Toronto Maple Leafs at Los Angeles Kings (-188, 5.5)

The Los Angeles Kings look to match a franchise-best nine-game winning streak and net Darryl Sutter his 500th coaching victory on Thursday when they open a five-game homestand against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Rookie Martin Jones made 24 saves in a 3-2 win over Calgary and turned aside 38 shots in the Kings' 3-1 victory in Toronto on Dec. 11, but is expected to take a seat in favor as Jonathan Quick. The 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy winner attempts to tie Rogie Vachon as he vies for his franchise-best 171st victory.

Anze Kopitar has admitted to receiving an "emotional boost" from the Olympics - and his recent play supports his statement. The Slovenian has collected four goals and eight assists in the last nine contests and scored and set up a tally on Monday. The Maple Leafs fell for just the seventh time in 21 games (14-4-3) with a 6-2 setback to San Jose on Tuesday.

LINE HISTORY: Los Angeles opened as high as a -200 home favorite but is down to -188 while the total opened 5.5.

COVERS POWER RANKINGS: Toronto (-170) / Los Angeles (-178)

INJURY WATCH: Toronto - C.Franson (Prob. Illness)

WHAT SHARPS SAY: "After stopping the bleeding with a home win over the Flyers on Saturday, the Leafs will look to gain some traction during a difficult western road swing this week." - Covers Expert Sean Murphy.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (35-24-8): Jonathan Bernier received the night off versus San Jose, but made dinner plans with some of his former Kings teammates for Wednesday night. "Try to let them know that they've got to shoot wide," the 25-year-old Bernier joked to TSN. Bernier, who was selected by Los Angeles with the 11th overall pick of the 2006 draft, stopped 20 shots in his first meeting against his former team.

ABOUT THE KINGS (38-22-6): Jeff Carter scored the tie-breaking goal midway through the third period and had an assist in his last meeting with Toronto. Carter has flustered the Maple Leafs in his career, tallying 11 times in 22 career contests and enters Thursday's tilt on a roll with three goals and an assist in his last four games. Defenseman Drew Doughty has seen his offense slip since the Olympics, but notched an assist for his first point in six outings.

TRENDS:

* Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
* Maple Leafs are 2-5 in the last seven meetings.
* Road team is 5-0 in the last five meetings.

COVERS CONSENSUS: 68 percent of bets are on the Kings. 64 percent of bets are on Under 5.5 goals.

Sharks at Blue Jackets: What Bettors Need to Know
By Covers.com

San Jose Sharks at Columbus Blue Jackets (+109, 5.5)

The San Jose Sharks begin a three-game Eastern Conference road trip on Thursday with a visit to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Sharks finished a four-game homestand against Eastern opponents, posting a 3-0-1 mark to improve to 18-6-3 against the conference. Columbus has won its last five home games as it attempts to hang on to a playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division.

San Jose defeated the Blue Jackets 3-2 at home on Feb. 7. Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to make his 13th consecutive start in net for Columbus, while Antti Niemi vies for a fourth straight victory in net for San Jose. The Sharks register a league-high 35.1 shots per game - 6.3 more than the Blue Jackets.

ABOUT THE SHARKS (42-17-7): Joe Pavelski collected two goals and an assist Tuesday to record his fourth multi-point effort in seven contests. Patrick Marleau is San Jose’s top performer on the road, with 37 points in 33 away games. Brent Burns has four goals in March and is two shy of his first 20-goal season.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (34-26-5): Blake Comeau was suspended two games for his hit on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith in Tuesday’s game and will be eligible to return next week. Artem Anisimov has scored five times in six contests to set a career high with 19 goals. Defenseman Nikita Nikitin returned to action on Tuesday after missing two games with a head injury.

TRENDS:

* Sharks are 1-4 in the last five meetings.
* Under is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings.
* Sharks are 5-1 in their last six games playing on one days rest.
* Blue Jackets are 5-0 in their last five home games.

OVERTIME:

1. Columbus entered this season with four straight victories against San Jose.

2. The Sharks have played eight straight games against the Eastern Conference and are 6-1-1 in that span.

3. San Jose is 0-for-18 on the power play in its last six contests.
