Marc Lawrence

Wisconsin vs. Iowa
Pick: Iowa

Five losses in a six-game stretch with three of those losses at home all coming after a 16-0 start would be enough to make most teams stumble to the finish line, then go one-and-out in a conference tourney and/or post-season play.  That’s not the case with Wisconsin, and we think all the credit should go to HC Bo Ryan, who knew exactly which buttons to push to get his team back on track. In Sunday’s 4th straight win following that January skid, the Badgers brought home the bacon for us as a 3-star newsletter selection in a 13-point payback victory on the road in Ann Arbor. Unfortunately, Bucky is just 6-11 ATS after playing Michigan, and this tilt against the Hawkeyes precedes a revenger in Bloomington with Indiana, where the Badgers are just 2-4 against the number. Contrast that with the fact that Iowa has covered six straight games in this series (five of those when playing with revenge), plus the Hawkeyes are a stellar 9-3 ATS since 2014 began.  But the best trend we found to back our point is Iowa’s 14-2 SUATS record in the last 16 games played with three or more days of rest (10-0 ATS if coming off a conference game). Iowa defends the home floor at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in this matchup of No. 15 versus No. 16. No more Wisky for us.  We recommend a 1-unit play on Iowa.

Joe Gavazzi

UNLV vs. Boise State
Play: UNLV +6½

Boise lost an earlier 73-69 decision at Thomas and Mack in a contest they led most of the way. With the confidence of a pair of recent victories vs. New Mexico and at Colorado St., the Broncos will be eager for revenge and to stay on the plus side of their conference ledger. But, UNLV approaches with equal hunger following their clunker at home vs. New Mexico, a 68-56 loss. Rebels have been remarkably proficient on the road this season with a 5-3 SU, 6-2 ATS log. Marks and Drmic are offensive forces for the drive and dish Broncos. But the Rebs have the interior presence in Birch and Smith and the athletic perimeter in Dejean-Jones, Smith and Olekaibe to shut down the perimeter.

Xavier vs. Georgetown
Play: Georgetown -2

Hoyas are on the wrong side of the bubble after Thursday’s 82-67 loss to Seton Hall and Sunday’s 82-60 loss at St. Johns. That puts them in a must win situation coming off BBLs and playing with revenge for an 80-67 loss at Xavier. Hoyas have the components to get this victory and do so with the motivation of urgency.

Red Dog Sports

Wake Forest vs. North Carolina
Play: Wake Forest +14

UNC has won 8 in a row and just defeated rival Duke on Thursday night. Now they have to face big underdog Wake Forest in less than two days later. The Demon Deacons did beat UNC 73-67 in the conference opener so the Tar Heels should be motivated. However, UNC has been getting off to slow starts lately and should be happy to win by 10 to 12 points. WF does have decent players like Travis McKie, Codi McIntyre and Coron Williams. The Tar Heels are deep but don't shoot 3's or free throws well so look for the underdog to stick around.

Jim Feist

Brooklyn Nets vs. Golden State Warriors
Play: Brooklyn Nets +6

Brooklyn is on a long road trip but rested for this one, with yesterday off. They come off a win at Utah, 105-99. Joe Johnson scored 27 points, and Andray Blatche tied a season-high with 25. Brooklyn snapped a three-game road losing skid and the surging Nets have won five of their last seven contests. The Nets are also 19-7 ATS in their last 26 vs. the NBA Pacific division. Brooklyn is a good defensive team, too, 12th in the NBA in points allowed and they are catching points here against the banged up Warriors. Golden State is off an emotional OT win over Houston, 102-99. They are still without Andruw Bogut up front and shot just 39.8 percent in the win. The Warriors are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a spread cover win and 1-7-1 following a win.

Don Best Consensus

Temple at Memphis
Pick: Under

Both these teams have been under teams this year. Memphis is 14-8 under and Temple is 12-10. Temple much more so on the road: Under is 10-3 in TEM last 13 road games. Temple has also played 5 of their last 6 games under. Memphis has solid D at home: Under is 9-4 in MEM last 13 home games. Under is 6-2 in MEM last 8 Sat. games.

Scott Spreitzer

Nevada at Air Force
Play: Air Force

The Nevada Wolf Pack have fallen on hard times since a 69-56 OT win over these Air Force Falcons on February 1. After playing to a draw in regulation, the gang from Reno out-scored the "Flyboys" 15-2 in the extra period. Since then though, Nevada has lost five straight games, including a loss to lowly San Jose State last time out in Reno. Basically, Wolf Pack opponents are surrounding do-everything guard Deonte Burton and the supporting cast is falling short when it comes to picking up the slack. Burton has fallen short of his season average in each of his last four games. Air Force has had their troubles also this season, but they have played a better brand of basketball in their last two outings, including a SU win on the road against San Jose State. Last time out, the Falcons covered on the road against San Diego State. As mentioned above, Air Force lost in OT in Reno to start February. They were able to play the Pack even-up through regulation despite the fact leading scorer and second-leading "disher," Tre Coggins missed the game. And we should note that despite making just 28.6% of their shots, including a horrible 6-of-35 night from behind the arc, the Falcons did force the extra period. I expect different results tonight in Colorado Springs where Air Force is on a 14-5 ATS run. Nevada checks-in on a 0-5 ATS slide and I believe both marks will continue trending in their current form. I'm recommending a play on Air Force minus the points on Saturday.

Jimmy Boyd

Old Dominion +7

Old Dominion has played well at home this season, and I like their chances to play a close game against Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are struggling without Raheem Appleby, and have now failed to cover the spread in three of their last four games. Louisiana Tech is coming off a straight up loss to East Carolina in their last outing in a game they were listed as a double-digit favorite.

The Old Dominion defense has been hard to score on this season. They are holding opponents to a mere 63.3 points per game when playing at home. That makes them one of the best defensive teams that Louisiana Tech has faced. The Monarchs are playing well against C-USA opponents this season, and they are more than talented enough to pull off the upset in this game. I don't know that they will get the straight up win today, but this game should certainly be decided by less than the seven points Old Dominion is being spotted.

Kyle Hunter

Morehead State vs. Murray State
Play: Murray State -3½

The Morehead State Eagles and Murray State Racers are bitter rivals. Morehead State has been disappointing of late, while Murray State is starting to hit their stride in recent weeks. Winning on the road isn't easy in a bitter rivalry like this one. Morehead State is very inefficient offensively, while Murray State has been very good on the offensive end of late. Murray State is a better halfcourt defense is as well. I like the Racers to cover here. Take Murray State.

Wisconsin vs. Iowa
Play:Wisconsin +5½

Plenty of line value here with the Badgers as their is uncertainty on whether B. Brent who has missed practices will suit up for this one. Either way we like their chances here getting nearly 6 points. Wisconsin has won 7 of 10 vs top 50 teams, while Iowa has lost 6 of 9 vs top 50 squads. The Hawkeyes have lost 2 of the 3 as a home favorite from -3.5 to -6. Wisconsin has better numbers and has won 17 of 21 vs winning teams and 5 of 7 vs teams who average 77 or more points per game. The Badgers are 2-0 straight up as a road dog of 3.5 to +6 and have won 4 straight. The Last 4 games in the series have been decided by 4 or less points, and this one should be tight as well. Take Wisconsin plus the points.

LSU vs. Kentucky
Play:Kentucky -11½

Kentucky lost earlier this season to LSU…..fast forward to now and Kentucky is home with revenge on their mind. Kentucky has a 14-1 home record. On the other hand LSU is 2-6 on the road. When Kentucky has been home with spreads similar to this they have covered all of them this season. Grab Kentucky who covers this one!

Big Kat Sports

Finland vs USA
Play: Finalnd

Don't mean to be anti-American here but I just can't see the Americans being up for this one. They just suffered a heartbreaking loss to Canada in the semi-finals and now have to come back less than 24 hours later to face a very strong Finland team that is basically playing with house money. Tukka Rask, for whatever reason, didn't get the start in the game against rival Sweden yesterday but he will be back between the pipes this morning against the Americans. Rask is one of the top three goalies in the world right now and why he didn't start in Finland's biggest game is beyond me. The Americans are the better team here, but with their expected lack of motivation, this price is just too high on the Americans. Take Finland +160 in the Bronze Medal Game in Sochi.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Saturday, February 22

Ben Burns

Memphis Grizzlies at Charlotte Bobcats
Pick: Memphis Grizzlies

Both these teams won last night. The Grizzlies took down the Clippers. The Bobcats eked out a win against New Orleans. Given that they've now won three straight and that they're playing at home, some might be a little surprised to find the Bobcats listed as underdogs here. The Grizzlies have now won four in a row though. They've also won 14 of their last 18, as this team has quietly been playing well for weeks now. Not only are the Grizzlies arguably more talented, they also have the schedule in their favor. Yes, both teams played last night. However, the Bobcats will be playing their fourth game in the past five days here, while the Grizzlies will only be playing their third. (Both teams played on the 18th but the Bobcats also played on the 19th, while the Grizzlies had that day off.) The Grizzlies are in one of their better roles here, as we find them at 4-1-1 ATS (5-1 SU) the last six times that they were listed as road favorites of three or fewer points. The Grizzlies swept the Bobcats last season, blowing them out at Memphis and winning by seven here at Charlotte. With the schedule in their favor, I feel they've got a great shot at another win. Consider Memphis.

SPORTS WAGERS

Finland +174 over USA

OT included. Betting sports is a science all in itself. We are always preaching to buy low and sell high and we went against that when we chose the Americans to beat Canada. The U.S. was rolling through the tournament and scoring a ton of goals and we got caught up in it also. Big mistake. The U.S. had trouble with the Russians and had it not been for the net coming off the moorings that would have given the Russians a 3-2 lead late in the third, this tournament would have been entirely different. In any event, the Americans could have won yesterday by scoring just 1 goal but guys like Keith Yandle, Kyle Okposo, Bobby Ryan and Dustin Byfuglien were all left at home. The Americans didn’t bring their best team with them. They brought guys they didn’t even want to use like John Carlson and Justin Faulk and it was a move that cost the team yesterday and probably should have cost them against the Russians. For the Americans, yesterday was THE game and playing for bronze here is equivalent to the Denver Broncos playing the Hamilton Tiger Cats in an exhibition game after getting smoked in the Super Bowl. Frame of mind plays a huge outcome in games and the Americans cannot be in a good one.

The same can’t be said for the Fins. They knocked off the host country and winning bronze would be considered a huge success for them. The Fins were a little flat against the Swedes after defeating the Russians but you can expect more energy out of them in this game. The Fins have enough talent on its roster to at least compete with the best teams in this event when all things are equal. However, all things are not equal here because the Americans motivation level must be in question and that makes the Fins a solid play taking back this sweet tag.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Saturday, February 22

SPORTS WAGERS

Queens Park Rangers +110 over CHARLTON

The Championship's best defense comes up against the worst attack, as Charlton host QPR on Saturday with the home side fighting relegation and the away side scrapping for promotion back to the Premier League. Charlton is on a poor run of only one win in their last twelve matches and have yet to taste victory in 2014. Scoring only 23 goals this season in 28 games isn't the kind of pedigree you'd want going forward against the stingiest defense in the league. QPR's solidity at the back has seen them concede just 24 times in 30 league games and although they're not prolific going forward they've developed a knack for winning close games.

Harry Redknapp's side can't afford to be dropping points against the lower lights of the division having recently failed to fare well against sides around them at the top. In their last three games, QPR has faced Reading, Derby and Burnley, all of whom are among the top six, and only come away with one point to show for it. With four clubs separated by only five points in pursuit of the second automatic promotion spot this fight is likely to come down to the wire. Moving into the final third of the season Redknapp will hope his side can perform like they did during the first third where they topped the division for the majority of that period.

Charlton are four points from safety in the relegation zone but at least have three games in hand on Millwall, who are immediately above them. A run of four successive defeats doesn't bode well for Chris Powell's men, and at plus money, QPR represents an attractive proposition for us to win the match and take the three points that will further help their promotion push. Joey Barton begins a two match ban for QPR but they will be boosted by the likely debut of loan signing Ravel Morrison from West Ham.

Harry Bondi

EVANSVILLE (+1) over Southern Illinois

Evansville went to Southern Illinois earlier this year and came away with an impressive 75-69 victory as a 5-point dog. The Aces dominated the second half in that game, especially on the boards where they held an overall edge of 41-33 in rebounds and we see that saw scenario playing out here tonight. We have no problem going against Southern Illinois in this role since it is just 2-10 straight up this year on the road and a dismal 8-32 away from home the last three seasons. The home team is 18-6 ATS in this series and the Salukis have covered just one of their last five games on this floor. Ride the home team Aces!

Nelly

Miami - over Boston College

Boston College only has two road wins all season but Wednesday's win at Syracuse was clearly the biggest win for the program in many years. Going back on the road with long travel to face a very tough defense should be a huge challenge on Saturday. Miami is just 1-4 in the last five conference home games but three of those losses came against Duke, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh, with two of those games being very tight. Miami has won two of the last three games with wins over Florida State and Notre Dame and the defensive edge for the Hurricanes in this matchup is absolutely massive. Boston College has won just three ACC games with the other two wins both coming against lowly Virginia Tech and Syracuse was caught in an awful scheduling spot for that game. Boston College is only 8-15-1 ATS on the season and the Eagles will be overvalued slightly coming off the huge upset over the #1 team. Syracuse shot just 32 percent in the game as the Orange had 13 more shots but still lost with the poor percentages. Miami is holding foes to just 39 percent shooting in Coral Gablesthis season and a letdown seems likely for BC.

Chase Diamond

Central Florida vs. Houston
Play: Central Florida +5

This game features the 10-14 UCF at the 12-14 Houston. UCF is just 2-7 on the road this year but beat Houston at home 79-75 just a few weeks ago. Now on the road playing this same Houston team they are catching 5 points. A very generous line as I believe UCF wins outrite. 80% of the public money is on Houston early yet this line is holding steady. Take the road dog here plus the points.
