Winnipeg Jets vs. Washington Capitals
Play: Washington Capitals -129

The Washington Capitals (25-23-9) has won five straight versus Winnipeg (28-25-5) and this looks like an excellent spot for the home team to make is six in a row here. The Capitals were shut out at home by the Islanders in their last action and should be looking for a bounce back here. Washington has controlled both ends of the ice during its five-game winning streak against the Jets, outscoring them 22-8. Caps star Alex Ovechkin had two goals and an assist in a 5-4 shootout win at Winnipeg on Oct. 22 in the only meeting this season. He has eight goals with six assists during a seven-game point streak in this series, giving him 40 goals and 81 points in just 54 meetings against the Jets franchise. While the Jets are playing at high level right now, the team will hard pressed to keep it going as the team is in the middle of a big road trip playing some hungry teams like Washington. Take the Washington to win straight up.

Washington vs. Utah
Play:Washington +9½

The Jekyll and Hyde Huskies are a team I have done well with this season. This team is more talented than you think and very athletic. Best of all they have a closer in Justin Wilcox who is a great scorer. They are not great on the road but have covered some big numbers against the likes of Arizona. This number is surprising to me as Utah is slumping having lost three in a row. Sure they were all on the road but this team is not that good to turn around and stomp Washington who will be looking for revenge too.

Chicago Bulls vs. Golden State Warriors
Play: Chicago Bulls +8

Chicago brings that tough defense on the road where the Bulls are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games. Chicago is second in the NBA in points allowed and third in field goal shooting defense, allowing just .434% shooting by opponents. That defense was on display the last game, a 101-92 upset at Phoenix as Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulls are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600. Golden State can play any style and is right behind Chicago in field goal shooting defense, so they will be content to play a defensive game. Golden State is on a 3-9 spread run and the Warriors are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games. Look for a slow paced defensive game with Chicago's rebounding able to keep this close. Play the Bulls!

The Nets will take the court tonight in a rare instance of being the healthier team, as they face a wounded San Antonio squad that will be missing Ginobili, Leobard, and now Tony Parker. Spurs in the middle of their Rodeo road trip and after playing the last two games on the road (wins against New Orleans and Washington) they have six more road games after tonight before they head back home.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Having the injuries combined with playing a double-overtime game yesterday - then having to travel and play tonight without rest is asking a bit much from the Spurs. Plus, Brooklyn is expected to have Joe Johnson, Andrei Kirilenko, and Blatche all back in the lineup tonight. Fatigue and a short bench figure to play a huge role tonight, and while we have not been high on Brooklyn this season this is a very good spot to back them.

After digging out from the rubble of a 21-43 effort in his first two seasons at Salt Lake City, 3rd-year HC Larry Krystkowiak is finally making progress with the Utes. However, a 3-5 start in Pac-12 play at press time has somewhat soured Utah's superb 11-1 start this campaign and the Mormons need to regroup after last week's back-to-back losses to the two Arizona schools. Right on cue, the Huskies from Seattle pay a visit to the Huntsman Center, bringing with them a 0-4 ATS mark in the last four series meetings. The sled dogs have faltered against .750 or less opposition this year, cashing only four tickets in a dozen opportunities. They also arrive off a battle against hated rival Washington State, a matchup that seems to prey on both teams' minds after the final buzzer has sounded. The Huskies eked out a narrow 2-point win over the Utes on January 8th and Utah boasts an outstanding 14-3 ATS record with same-season revenge - including a perfect 8-0 ATS mark at home. We're not stepping in front of that, especially when the home-lovin' hosts have cooked up a 14-1 SU and 9-1 ATS home log this season. We say fire up the grill, slip on the apron and serve yourself a delectable pointspread winner courtesy of the Utes - one of America's top college hoops moneymaking machines this season. We recommend a 1-unit play on Utah.

The Aggies sit a top the WAC Conference and take on Idaho for a 2nd time here tonight. The first game was a big 16 point win for State in a game that could have been much worse. New Mexico St is 10-1 to the spread as a road favorite from -6.5 to -9 and has won 30 of the last 35 vs losing teams, covering their two most recent vs these inept opponents. They have shot over 50% from the field in each of the last 3 games and have a solid 72 ranking in the RPI Scale which is not bad for a WAC Conference team. They are 9-2 vs teams ranked 200 or worse in the RPI Scale like Idaho. In games vs winning teams Idaho has dropped 5 of 6 and they are a hideous 7-18 ats in home games. They have dropped 4 of the last 5 here in the series and come in losers of 2 straight here on their home floor. Things do not get easier here tonight against the Best team in the Conference. Lay the Points.

Winnipeg vs. Washington
Pick: Washington
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM

The Jets scored a late goal in Carolina on Tuesday, sneaking away with a 2-1 win, giving them nine wins in their last 11 games. Winnipeg is edging closer to a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but they are one of three teams that are within two points of the eighth place Canucks.

Washington is in a similar situation in the East, sitting three points back of the Red Wings, who occupy the eighth and final playoff spot. Washington has been solid at home all year, with a record of 15-10-2, and they have won five straight against the Jets.

Alex Ovechkin is doing all he can, leading the league in scoring with 39 goals, nine more than any other player. The Caps also boast one of the top power-play units in the league, clicking at 24.4% on the man-advantage.

The Jets have been playing way over their heads, and they could suffer a let down here in Washington, after getting lucky in Carolina earlier in the week.

Despite of their under .500 SU record the Long Beach State 49ers have been money in the bank on the ATS front of late cashing their L/4 overall SU/ATS and 7 of their L/8 ATS on the road , including 5-1 ATS in tilts vs teams who perform well at home with a .600 win percentage or better like the UC Irvine Anteaters. It must be noted that LB State is also 5-2 SU against conference foes and have notched consecutive road wins in Hawaii and Cal Poly. With that said, the 49ers look to be in top form at the moment giving credence to them pulling off a possible upset and more importantly a cover.

I’m going all the way to the very end of the heavy Thursday slate for a look at the game between UC-Santa Barbara and Hawaii. This is a very important game for each team in the Big West race.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Hawaii knocked off the Gauchos in both meeting last season. That can be tossed to some extent as UCSB is a much improved entry this season. Also, Juice Williams only played in one of those battles last season. But in that game, Hawaii did everything possible to deny Williams the ball, and he ended up having a difficult night.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Williams is not the only weapon the Gauchos have at their disposal. Michael Bryson has had some good games, and Kyle Boswell is a real home run threat with his deadly three point shooting. But Williams is by far the big key for UCSB. He shoots the highest percentage of his team’s field goal attempts in the entire country. If Hawaii can again be diligent in limiting his shots, UCSB is probably in trouble.

The Rainbow Warriors have to treat this as their biggest game of the season. Hawaii is just one game out of the conference lead. But they’re also in fourth place as there are three teams tied at the top. A loss here would be hugely damaging to any hopes they have of winning the league.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
I like what Gib Arnold is doing with this Hawaii squad. Christian Standhardinger is their star, but they’ve got nice balance on offense. The most recent Hawaii outing was a good illustration as Standhardinger had one of his worst games all season. But three other players stepped up to combine for 50 points and Hawaii got the comfortable win.

I also like where the books have put this line. It’s higher than it ought to be off the power ratings. If the right price on a game is a few points away from where it appears it ought to be, trust the guys who make the lines. They don’t make many blunders. I’ll be looking at Hawaii minus the points tonight.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Los Angeles Kings
Play: Los Angeles Kings -151

The Kings are struggling, dropping their last three games at home. They look to salvage their homestand a bit here by beating the Blue Jackets prior to their nearly three week hiatus coming up due to the winter Olympics. This King team is much better than 66 point total they have posted so far this year. This is a very important game for them to stay a bit ahead of some decent teams chasing them to get into the postseason. Kings win on Thursday.

Jimmy Boyd

IUPU Ft Wayne vs. South Dakota State
Play: South Dakota State -4

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are an easy call at home in this matchup with the IPFW Mastodons. The Jackrabbits are 7-3 at home this season, and they are coming off two confidence boosting wins on the road as an underdog. Ft. Wayne has had the luxury of playing at home in their last three outings, and I expect them to look a little flat in their first road game in almost three weeks. The Mastodons' last road game was a six point loss to South Dakota.

IPFW is nowhere near as good as its 18-6 record would indicate. The Mastodons have a very soft defense this season. They have surrendered over 70 points per game to opponents whose offensive scoring average is only 68.7 points per game. They are also a very poor free throw shooting team making a mere 63.2 percent of their attempts on the road. To pull off a road upset it takes an advantage from the free throw line, on the boards and turnovers. All three of those areas favor the Jackrabbits in this matchup.

I've watched Murray State play on a couple of occasions this season and came away impressed with how aggressive they are offensively. Not only do they push the pace but they put five players on the court that can score a number of ways. The Racers have four guards who shoot between 34 and 41 percent from three and forwards Jarvis Williams and Jonathan Fairell combine to hit over 60% from the floor. Nine games in the OVC season, and Murray is averaging an incredibly efficient 1.16 points per possession. Tonight's opponent, Belmont, scores at an identical clip, and like Murray, the Bruins will look to push the pace as well. Defensively, Belmont and Murray both allowed less than a point per possession last season but have taken a step back. The Bruins allow 1.07 ppp and while Murray ranks at the top of the OVC at 0.99, I don't expect they'll match that number on the road against arguably the best offense in the league. Last year's lone regular season meeting – both teams were slightly slower and better defensively – featured 153 points. It wasn't until the conference tournament, with an NCAA bid on the line, did we see a more controlled environment. (Belmont won 70-68 in OT). This is being hyped as OVC game of the year but I expect to see a swift enough pace to reach 150 points or more.

Matt Fargo

Pacific vs. Pepperdine
Play: Pepperdine -3

We are catching a good number with Pepperdine tonight as it looks to climb two games over .500 in the WCC for the first time since opening 3-0 in the conference. It was a bit of a rough stretch for the Waves as it lost five of its next seven games but five of those were on the road and the one home loss came against Gonzaga. This is a rather big game tonight as Pepperdine's next two games are against St. Mary's and Gonzaga so a loss here could suddenly have it two games under .500 a week from now. Overall, the Waves are 7-3 at home and they are a perfect 4-0 ATS this season as favorites or fewer than five points. Pacific is also coming off a win as it defeated San Diego on the road which was its first road win following four straight losses on the highway. The Tigers are just 3-7 in the conference and they have followed up those first two wins with losses next time out. Pacific won the first meeting against Pepperdine at home by 10 points which puts the Waves in a revenge spot. Pepperdine is playing at a high level right now as after Saturday's victory against Loyola Marymount, it has its most overall and conference wins since 2004-05. Waves are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games against teams with a winning record while going 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a win including going 6-0 ATS off a home win this season.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Thursday, February 6

Jack Jones

LSU -2½

The LSU Tigers (14-6) are playing their best basketball of the season entering this game against the Georgia Bulldogs Thursday. They have put themselves in an excellent position to make the NCAA Tournament, and they know they cannot afford a loss here.

I expected the Tigers to be one of the most improved teams in the country this season with four returning starters. After a shaky start, they have really put it all together of late. They have won four of their last five games overall while going 4-0-1 ATS in the process.

LSU has beaten the likes of Vanderbilt (81-58), Missouri (77-71), Kentucky (87-82) and Arkansas (88-74) during this span. Three of those four teams could be going to the big dance. Their lone loss came at Alabama (80-82) by a mere two points during this stretch.

Georgia (10-10) simply lacks the talent to compete in the SEC. It put together a nice run at the start of the SEC season with four wins in its first five games, but the team was playing for head coach Mark Fox as he had just lost his father prior to the conference opener. The Bulldogs have dropped three straight since, including a 54-59 home loss to Vanderbilt.

The Tigers are 10-1 ATS versus poor pressure defensive teams that force 12 or fewer turnovers per game over the past three seasons. LSU is 51-24 ATS in its last 75 games off a home win against a conference rival. The Bulldogs are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings with Georgia. Bet LSU Thursday.

Joe Duffy

Connecticut / Cincinnati Under 127

Our true line (previously known as outlaw line) is 122.5. The true line is what the line would be without public perception or bad line moves. Our power line has it at 123.

Cincinnati’s games have gone under by an average of 11.4 points per game, so their 14-3 under mark it totally legit. Connecticut has gone under by an average of 3.4 points per game.

Cincinnati freshman Jermaine Lawrence is probable after missing eight games. He is a nice defensive force inside, making it a stronger bet if he does play.

Connecticut holds teams to 38.6 percent shooting from the field, which is a whopping 6.3 below their foes normal average. Cincinnati is even better holding squads normally averaging 44.6 percent to just 38.6.

The KenPom adjusted defense has Cincy with the fifth best in the country. Points will be very difficult to come by. Look for yet another under.

Dennis Macklin

Northern Colorado vs. Idaho State
Play: Northern Colorado -2

If you take a look at this year's Big Sky standings you will see a theme. Almost every team in the conference is a monster at home and the French Army on the road .... as evidenced by tonight's free play. League leading Northern Arizona (13-6) is 11-0 at home and 2-6 on the road while homestanding 9th place Idaho State (7-12) is 6-2 at home but 1-10 with suitcase. That said, we'll lay the small price with the Bears tonight. Northern won the first go round at home 82-75 (-11) despite Idaho State hitting 56% of its shots including 7-17 from downtown. Northern Colorado showed some quality early on with a win over Kansas State their B2B losses can be directly attributed to horrific free throw shooting which they should be able to rectify here. The Bears are worth a flyer at this small number.

South Alabama vs. Troy
Play: Troy -1

Both of these teams are bad, and at the bottom of the Sun Belt conference. Both these teams are on big losing streaks. One team has to break out of the slump, and I believe it will be Troy. At home Troy should be able to get out of their funk and win this one.

San Francisco is 14-9 overall this season and at 7-4 in the WCC, the Dons are tied for second place with BYU, three games behind Gonzaga (10-1). San Diego is 13-11 but just 4-7 in league action. The Toreros continue their four-game homestand at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday night when they host the Dons.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Many thought the Dons would really be crippled when PG Doolin (12.2 PPG and 5.6 APG last season) left the team after just four games (13.0-7.0 APG) but that hasn't been the case. Four guards have seen significant minutes with Holmes (12.0) being the top scorer in the backcourt and Glover (8.6-5.9-3.5) being the most complete player.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Derksen (8.5) and Adams (4.6) round out the Dons' perimeter group plus San Francisco has a very good frontcourt trio in the 6-7 Dickerson (14.5-7.2), the 6-7 Pinkins (12.3-6.6) and the 6-9 Tollefson (11.4-4.1).
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
San Diego can't quite match that trio, although the 6-11 Kramer (11.9-6.7) has played well plus the 6-9 Kok (4.2-4.0) adds size. San Diego does have a very good three-guard lineup in Dee (17.1), Sanadze (12.8) and PG Anderson (9.8-3.5-5.8).
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
When these teams met in San Francisco, the Toreros were just one day removed from a 69-66 road win at Santa Clara and despite the Dons connecting on 53.5% from the floor (including 6 of 11 on threes), San Diego only lost 64-62 (as a seven-point dog). No way San Fran shoots that well here in San Diego, as the Toreros earn the home win and cover!
