I don't think Boise State is quite ready to step up in competition again and Iowa State is one of the hotter teams in the country. Of course anything can happen when you are playing in Hawaii on Christmas, but this Iowa State team seems focused. Boise State has stepped up in competition twice vs. St. Mary's where they were actually favorites and lost and Kentucky losing by 15. Iowa State just has too much talent in their front court and their advantages on defense are far better than the stats reveal. Boise is also slumping in their last 5 they are getting out rebounded by nearly 5 and their defense is allowing 46.8% from the field, the nation's average is 44%. Boise has gotten by with forcing turnovers, but Iowa State is among the nation's leaders in fewest turnovers per game.

At the bottom of this analysis a whopping 80-PERCENT SYSTEM which makes this late night wager an extremely high percentage play.  It was exactly one year ago on Christmas evening when the Los Angeles Clippers won #14 in a row which was in the midst of a massive run where they eventually put together seventeen consecutive victories.  In a late night telecast which wrapped up a massive Christmas card the Clippers shot the lights out in front of their home fans in a 112-100 victory where the oddsmakers (205) could not post a spot high enough.  That triumph came against a Denver contingent that at the time was coached by veteran George Karl whose teams traditionally have operated with an up-tempo offense that had kept scoreboard operators busy.  This time around the Clippers are facing a head coach (Mark Jackson) who when taking the job originally with Golden State had actually preached DEFENSIVE intensity.  The Warriors are coming off a Monday triumph (89-81 final score) which was a major milestone as the team recorded its first triumph of the campaign when scoring below 95 points.  The Warriors are advertised on a national level as having one of the best shooting tandems in the NBA with three-point specialist Stephen Curry leading the way joined by Klay Thompson.  The Warriors also have a major interior presence with David Lee who has averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds during a nine-game “double double” run.  Admittedly the Clippers have for the most part been a high scoring contingent in the initial campaign with Doc Rivers as their head coach led by arguably the top guard (Chris Paul) in the entire league.  But the bottom line is that Rivers had vast DEFENSIVE roots spanning from a successful nine-year run in Boston where the Celtics stop-unit thrived and even won a championship.  Here is a whopping 80-PERCENT SYSTEM (28-7 since 1996 with a high posted total of 200+ points) which plays road teams like the Clippers going above spot by at least 18 points in the previous game UNDER the total, versus an opponent who has actually held below the spot by more than 12 points in consecutive contests.

Rockets at Spurs
Play: Over 209

Carlos likes the OVER here tonight on Christmas day between Houston and San Antonio. Both teams have been scoring quickly and Houston has been giving up nearly 109 points per game on the road this season. Look for more of the same tonight as this one goes over the posted total with ease.

Pick: San Antonio Spurs

How many Christmas games are there, anyway? Spurs in revenge mode after losing by 6 vs. Houston at AT&T Center back on Nov. 30. Fundamentals proved a bit tricky that night for Spurs, who were clobbered by 54-33 count on the boards and saw their “Hack-a-Howard” strategy backfire in the 4th Q when big Dwight made some free throws. But it was also Chandler Parsons and James Harden (combined 56 points) as well as unsung F Terrence Jones (16 boards) who bedeviled Spurs that night. Expect Coach Pop to address the rebounding deficiencies in rematch, and if Howard has to go the charity stripe, let’s see him shoot 63% again as he did in first meetings. Play Spurs
