Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays winners of eight straight plating 5.8 runs/game stuffing +$730 into betting accounts try to keep the streak alive when they host Baltimore Orioles in the opener of this three game set at Rogers Center. The Jays have knuckler R.A. Dickey toeing the rubber and he brings a 6-8 record, 4.90 ERA to the hill. Dickey has not been a good bet vs Orioles with his new club as he has posted a 0-2 record spanked for 10 runs over 12 2/3 innings this season. If inconsistent Dickey gets into trouble he'll be hooked quickly and replaced by a bullpen that has pitched 24 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. The O's are scheduled to counter with Jason Hammel compiling a 7-4 record, 5.24 ERA on the campaign. Hammel has enjoyed success vs Toronto in his career going 4-1 with his teams 7-1 over eight starts. But, Hammel is suspect having hit a rough spot of late posting an 0-2 mark and 6.32 ERA over his last three outings. Toronto crushing the ball with consistency over it's streak and with a belly full of confidence having won 11-of-13 including 5-1 at home expect Jays to keep rolling along. Betting trends are in Jays favor, they're 7-3 as favorite opening a series at home, 29-10 as favorite hosting O's.

Pittsburgh - Los Angeles Preview
Sportspic.com

The Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates begin a three-game weekend interleague series tonight, with the Angels set to wind up a 10-game homestand, while the Pirates start the second phase of the team’s road trip.

Oddsmakers have the run total at 7.5, while the Angels will take the field as strong favorites at -165, according to the current betting odds at Bovada.

Getting the start for the Angels will be righthander Jered Weaver, who has a 1-3 record and 4.41 ERA, after missing close to two months with a wrist injury. In an uncharacteristic performance in his last start, Weaver allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings in a loss to the New York Yankees last Sunday.

Prior to that, his two previous trips to the hill at home for Los Angeles in 2013 had seen him compile an excellent 1-0 mark with a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work.

Opposing Weaver will be the Pirates’ top prospect, rookie Gerrit Cole, who will making his third start after being called up earlier this month. Cole has won his previous two starts, and enters tonight with a 3.75 ERA.

The Southern California native, who played college ball at nearby UCLA, was pitching in his two previous starts as a home favorite in Pittsburgh, but will be a heavy underdog against the Angels tonight. Plus, Cole will no doubt have plenty of family in the crowd this evening, which may ratchet up the pressure on the young righthander.

The Pirates have finished Under the number seven of 11 times in the first game of a road series, including four of the last six. In the four-game series that began the road trip, the first three contests all finished Under, while the finale ended in a push.

With regard to Weaver, he has displayed a knack during his career for living up to expectations when it comes to run totals: when the number is Under 8 and he starts a game at home, the Under has cashed four of the last six times and 25 of 39 times overall.

Also, despite his last outing, Weaver has always been strong at home, and has a habit of making amends for a poor performance. When the Angels have lost one of his home starts and he takes the mound again in the same homestand, the Under is 5-1.

While the price is likely too high to consider taking Weaver and the Angels outright, the combination pitching matchup of a quality veteran and a highly-touted phenom are solid reasons to take the Under, so

Play Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Under 7.5
