The A's will have the Rangers full attention tonight. Texas not only trails Oakland by 3-games in the AL West, but they also come in extremely motivated to put and end to their six-game losing streak. The Rangers are simply too talented of a team to continue to play this badly. A matchup against the A's could be exactly what this team needs to get going. The Rangers are 13-5 over their last 18 games vs division opponents and are a respectable 48-30 against the money line after 5 or more consecutive losses since 1997.

Oakland well send out Daniel Straily, who has struggled on the road with a 4.35 ERA. In his last start away from home, he allowed 4 runs on six hits at the White Sox. Texas will counter with Nick Tepesch. While Tepesch has struggled in his two most recent outings, he's got a 3.66 ERA over six starts at Rangers Ballpark. This is a good spot for Tepesch to bounce back, as he will be making his first ever start vs the A's.

The Rangers also find themselves in a very profitable situation. Over the last 5 seasons, home teams that are allowing 4.2 or less runs/game against an opponent who has a starting pitcher with an ERA of 2.50 or less over his last 5 starts are a dominant 116-60 (66%)!

Chicago White Sox -106FOR FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM

The Chicago White Sox get the nod Monday as a small road favorite over the lowly Houston Astros (26-44). After losing four straight, including the first three to Houston in this series, the Sox are highly motivated for a victory to avoid the sweep.

I like Chicago's chances of getting back in the win column tonight behind the underrated Jose Quintana. The left-hander has gone 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 13 starts this season, including 1-0 with a 3.53 ERA in six road starts.

Bud Norris has pitched pretty well for Houston, too, going 5-6 with a 3.47 ERA. However, he has been fortunate to post that solid of an ERA considering he sports a 1.422 WHIP on the year. He puts a ton of runners on base, and I look for the White Sox to take advantage.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The White Sox are 6-1 in their last 7 games after losing the first 3 games of a series. Chicago is 12-2 in Quintana's last 14 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance. The Astros are 49-108 in their last 157 overall. Houston is 25-53 in its last 78 games as a home underdog. The Astros are 9-25 in Norris' last 34 starts. Bet the White Sox Monday.

LA ANGELS -161 over Seattle: Big Price I know, but I think it's warranted. Back in May when these teams played here the Angels swept the 2 game series by a 19-1 count, and that was when they weren't even playing well. They still aren't setting the world on fire, but they are playing better, having won 3 of their last 4 games and nearly pulled out a miracle win yesterday vs the Yanks. he Angels offense is starting to hit much better and they will be facing Aaron Harang, who s 0-3 with a 8.02 ERA in 5 career starts vs the Halos. Aaron has faced the Halos twice this year and has been lit up, allowing 12 ER's on 15 hits and 4 homers in just 6.2 innings of work. He lost both games and was outscored by an 18-3 count in those games. Jason Vargas has sputtered a bit in his last 2 starts, but still in his last 6 starts he has allowed 3 ER's or less and is 4-1 in those games. At home he has gone 4-1 with a 3.21 ERA and while he did lose once to Seattle this year he di allow just 2 ER's in 8 innings in that start. The Halos average 4.61 rpg at home and they should easily eclipse that vs Harang tonight. Seattle scores just 3.37 rpg on the road and just won't come up with nearly enough offense to take out the improving and desperate Halos tonight. This is a huge series for the Angels as they can pass Seattle in the standings and I feel they will kick off the series in fine fashion.

Oakland/ Texas Under 9.5: Ok Im gonna throw a few stats out there that im sure not many of you would have expected heading into this year. Rangers Stadium has always been one of the best hitting parks in the league, but not ths year as this park is 14th in hitting and just 7.94 rpg have been scored in Texas home games. This is a stadium that is used to seeing 11 or 12 rpg being scored. That's stat one. Stat number 2 is the fact that the Ranger home games have gone 24-8-1 to the under this year. That's amazing. Ok stat 3 is the fact that Texas has scored just 4.39 rpg at home this year. THis is a team that has put up 5.5+ rpg at home for years. The Texas offense s sputtering overall right now as they have averaged just 2.4 rpg in their last 10 games and the Under is 9-1 in those games. Nicholas Tepesch has made 12 starts on the year and he does have a 4.30 ERA in those starts, but the Under is 9-2-1 in his games, with just 7.33 rpg being scored. At home he has pitched well with a 3.66 ERA and all 6 of his home starts have gone under the total, with just 5.67 rpg being scored in those games. Dan Straily has a 4.45 ERA overall, but just a 2.20 ERA in his last 5 starts, so he is pitching very well at the moment as should have little problems in shutting down an anemic Texas Offense. Dan has a 4.35 ERA on te road and his road starts have gone 4-1 to the Over, but interesting to note that his road starts have averaged just 7.8 rpg. Dan has made 2 career starts in this park and has allowed just 1 ER in 13.2 innings of work in those starts and his one start here this year was a 1-0 final. With a struggling Texas offense in a non-hitters park his year and with some solid pitching on the mound, i will expect no more than 7 runs in this one.

Rob Veno

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
Play: Under

Important series between these teams who begin the three game set separated by a half game in the NL Central. The Pirates starter Francisco Liriano has been a bettor’s dream this season as the money has flowed toward him in almost all of his starts. Today’s game appears no different as the Bucs have been bet down slightly from the opener and perhaps with good reason. Not only has Liriano had overwhelming stuff led by his top notch slider, but he dominated this Reds lineup just 16 days ago. In that June 1 outing, the Pittsburgh LH went six full, allowed just 4 hits and one run while posting an 11:1 K-BB ratio. He walked away on the wrong end of a 2-0 final in that game because Reds RH Mike Leake was dominant as well throwing six shutout innings. Leake yielded seven hits (all singles) and gained redemption for an earlier loss to Pittsburgh where he was lit up for 10 hits and five runs. The RH has been on a tear over his last six starts registering a 0.98 WHIP and 1.13 ERA. Cincinnati is 5-1 in those games and five of the six have stayed under the total. 26 of the 33 hits he has given up during this 40 inning stretch have been singles while only two have been home runs. Each of these pitchers are in terrific form right now and the difference tonight could very well be the bullpens. Pittsburgh’s “Shark Tank” relief corps has been near untouchable but they enter this game with fatigue issues as setup man Mark Melancon (3 straight days, 42 pitches), LH specialist Justin Wilson (back-to-back days 36 pitches) and closer Jason Grilli (2 of last 3 days,  41 pitches) were all worked hard over the weekend. The Reds bullpen meanwhile is arguably nastier and they are rested & ready. Drawing a pitcher friendly umpire would make this even nicer but generating runs is likely to be tough in this game no matter what. Under 8 looks to be a solid choice.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Monday, June 17

MLB Predictions

Kansas City Royals -1 -106

The Royals enter this one off a weekend series win in Tampa Bay taking 2 of three, and winners of 10 of their last 12 games overall. After a big slide they have rebounded to just one game below .500 at 33-34. The Indians managed a weekend series win over the Nationals, winning two games when they scored just 2 runs. They've won 4 of 5 overall, but that comes after losing 8 straight games. James Shields is on the mound for Kansas City and he is 2-6 on the year with a 2.79 ERA, .237 OBA and 1.11 WHIP. He has posted a 2.14 ERA over his last three starts and the Royals are 3-0 in those games. Carlos Carrasco is on the mound for Cleveland and we successfully bet against him in his last start in Detroit where he gave up 10 hits and 6 earned runs in 4 innings of work. He is 0-2 over 2 starts with a 15.26 ERA and batters are hitting .436 against him. Take note that the Royals are 10-1 in their last 11 vs a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. They are also 5-0 in their last 5 games as a favorite, and 8-2 in their last 10 starts vs a right handed starter. The Indians are just 4-13 in their last 17 games as an underdog, 0-5 in their last 5 divisional games, and 0-8 in Carrasco's last 8 starts. This is a pitching mis-match tonight and I think the scoreboard will reflect that.

Pirates / Reds Under 8

The Pirates continue to win their backers money as they won another series at home vs the Dodgers this weekend. Totals of those games were 9, 8 and 3 with the Pirates scoring 12 runs over the three games. They are now a solid 41-28 on the season. The Reds are also coming off a home series win vs Milwaukee and have won 5 of their last 7 games. Totals of their games over the weekend were 6, 6, and 7 with just 9 runs scored over the 3 games but all around pretty solid pitching. Cincinnati is 42-28 on the year. Tonight the Pirates will send southpaw Francisco Liriano to the mound who is 5-2 on the season (over 7 starts) with a 2.36 ERA, .226 OBA and 1.26 WHIP. He has been a pleasant surprise this year for the Pirates. The Reds go with a pitcher who has also been a pleasant surprise from them in Mike Leake. After posting a 4.58 ERA last season Leake has been very solid this year, especially as of late. He is 6-3 on the season with a 2.76 ERA, .269 OBA and 1.24 WHIP. In May he posted a 1.87 ERA and so far in June through 3 starts he has a 1.89 ERA. And even better over his last 6 starts his ERA is a microscopic 1.13. These two teams have played 6 games so far this year and we've seen totals of 9, 2, 6, 17, 4, and 11. Only three of the six fell under tonight's total, but take note that these two pitchers squared off on June 1st and we saw a 2-0 final score. The UNDER is 4-1 in the Reds last 5 overall and 14-3 in their last 17 home games vs a team with a winning record. The UNDER is also 7-0 in their last 7 games vs a left handed starter, and 5-1 in Leake's last 6 starts overall. The UNDER is 10-3-2 in these two teams last 15 meetings overall and 3-1-1 in Leake's last 5 vs the Pirates. I don't know if we can expect just 2 runs in this game like the last time these two teams faced off, but I do think there is value in taking UNDER 8 runs tonight. Lets go with the UNDER to kick start the week.

Harry Bondi

SAN FRANCISCO (-120) over San Diego

Our free pick record is now 14-5 (74%) the last 19 days, including eight underdog winners. The Padres are red-hot, winning six in a row and seven out of eight and we used them a couple times last week and cashed in. But tonight they run into Barry Zito, who has been terrific at home this season and will have what it takes to cool off San Diego. Zito is 4-1 with a 1.94 ERA in this park and overall this year the Giants are a profitable 21-11 at home. The Giants bullpen has also been fantastic at home posting a 2.21 ERA. Tough to step in front of such a hot team, but we'll lay the short number with the Giants at home.

Kansas City Royals -130

James Shields is having himself a fine season yet he only is 2-6 on the year. Some times it just so happens that when great pitchers are on the mound the opposing pitcher is just as good and they never get run support. Tonight that is not the case. Carlos Carrasco has been awful this year and this is a prime chance for the Royals to get Shields a nice win on the year. Take Kansas City.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Monday, June 17

CHRIS JORDAN

My free winner for Monday night is out of the National League Central division, where I like the Pittsburgh Pirates to get it done over the Cincinnati Reds, and I want you listing both pitchers: Francisco Liriano and Mike Leake. The two talented hurlers face one another for a second time, and it's Liriano who is out for revenge in this game.

Liriano (5-2, 2.36 ERA) has been stellar for the Pirates and comes into this one looking to make a statement for the Bucs, who are embarking on a rather long road trip. And while I know Liriano was touched for a season high-tying four runs on eight hits in six innings against San Francisco last Wednesday, when he struck out a season-low two, I think the crafty southpaw will be dominant for revenge after losing at home to the Reds on June 1.

Liriano was solid in producing a quality start, lasting six innings and giving up just one earned run while striking out 11 and walking only one batter. The fiery southpaw has thrown 42 innings this season, without giving up a home run.

Look for him to dominant once again and gain revenge. Take the Reds and list both.

BRAD WILTON

Monday's comp play is the Under in the Pirates-Reds contest.

This game features a pair of hot hurlers, and I expect Francisco Liriano and Mike Leake to be able to keep the bats quiet tonight at Great American Ballpark.

Liriano comes into this one off a shaky last start against San Francisco, but it is hard to overlook the fact that prior to his last outing, he had allowed one run or less in 5 of his previous 6 starts this season. His ERA stands at 2.36, and 3 of his last 5 starts have ended up holding Under the total.

Mike Leake counters for the Reds, and he stands at 6-3 for the year with a 2.36 ERA. 5 of Leake's last 6 starts have ended up holding Under the total too.

Series numbers show the Under has been the play, as the Low is 10-3-2 the last 15 times the teams have faced on another.

With Cincy sporting a 4-1 Under run their last 5, including Unders in each of their last 3, I will play the percentages and go Under in the Pirates - Reds series opener this Monday night.

3* PITTSBURGH-CINCINNATI UNDER
