Cole Hamels is due to start winning and so too are the Phillies. They come in as the favorite for Tuesday's series opener in Minnesota, and in this case I feel it's justified. This is a free play on Philadelphia.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Hamels has a mind-blowing 2-11 team start record for the season. His nine losses are approaching a career high and its only early June. But he looked like the Hamels of old last time out, throwing a gem against the Miami Marlins. In seven innings, the veteran southpaw gave up just one run on four hits while striking out a season-best 11 batters. It snapped a personal six-game losing streak. A quality pitcher like Hamels will eventually turn things around.  It started last Wednesday and will continue here.

The Phillies are struggling right now, as they lost the final three games of a four-game set in Milwaukee.  But Minnesota has lost four of five and has been guilty of playing some sloppy baseball. They have committed four errors the last five games while batting an atrocious 4 of 50 (.080 BA) w/ RISP. They were swept in a doubleheader Sunday at Washington. The last time Tuesday's starter PJ Walters faced the Phillies was last June and he allowed four runs on just 15 pitches and wound up on the DL. The Phillies scored 22 runs in that series. They should have a big three games here.

I like the Over in Tuesday's matchup between the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies.  At first blush, this total seems a bit high for a Nats club that at times really struggles to score.  But with two troubled starting pitchers, I see both sides having no problems putting runs on the board.

1. Dan Haren - It's been a poor season for Haren thus far, especially when he pitches on the road. He is 1-5 outside the Beltway & overall is just 4-7 in 12 starts. He allowed five earned runs at home his last start, making it just four innings and that was against the sorrowful Mets. The Over is 17-6 all-time in Haren's June road starts. The Over is 8-4 in all Haren starts this season.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
2. Jhoulys Chacin - The Rockies starter hasn't fared much better this season as he's allowed five runs in back to back starts. He comes in with a 5.65 ERA at Coors Field this season.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
3. X-Factor - The Rockies come in averaging 5.4  runs per game at home this year and are averaging six full runs per contest over their last seven games. They have scored at least eight times in three of their past five ballgames.

When the Red Sox send ace left-hander Jon Lester to the hill against the Rays and Roberto Hernandez - aka Fausto Carmona - in Tampa in Game Two of this three game set Tuesday evening, Boston will do so knowing Lester has cashed in 11 of his 14 career away team starts during the month of June. On the flip side, Hernandez had dropped 11 of his last 15 team starts in June and is just 1-5 in his team starts at night with the Rays.  With that look for Hernandez to fall to 2-6 in his last eight team starts against the BoSox here tonight.  We recommend a 1-unit play on Boston.

Ian Kennedy (3-4, 5.72 ERA) gets the call for the visitors; Kennedy has struggled with consistency this year and it all culminated in the worst start of his career vs. the Cardinals on Thursday after giving up 10 earned runs off 13 hits with two walks over just four innings of work. The right-hander will be opposed by Zack Greinke (3-1, 3.89 ERA) who threw seven scoreless frames vs. the Braves on Thursday, giving up four hits and three walks while also striking out seven. The Diamondbacks enter this series Monday night having lost three of four, with its rotation posting a ghastly 10.80 ERA in that span; this of course has put an added load on their already tired bullpen. "Recent performance" plays a part in my handicapping repertoire and in this department there is no question that Greinke holds the advantage. When you add up all the factors working in favor of the home side tonight and couple it with this very reasonable line, I believe you'll agree with me that Greinke is a very appetizing opportunity in this particular matchup.

Bartolo Colon may soon be suspended, but while he is still pitching he has caught my eye as he has posted a 1.04 WHIP and a 0.39 ERA over his last three starts over 23 innings. It's strange because he's throwing strike, but all he is doing is throwing straight fastballs 85% of the time. Normally that would get you in trouble against a team like the Yankees, but not this year as the Yankees are ranked #21 vs. the fastball compared to ranking #1 last year. Colon struggled against Granderson, Jeter, and Arod big time who all had over 1.000 OPS against him so it should help him facing this version of the Yankees who are 0-4 in their last 4 trips to Oakland.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Oakland is a different team than the past and they just continue to win at home, 38-16 in their last 54 hoe games while the Yankees will turn to C.C. Sabathia who has a 4.88 ERA on the road. He's got good numbers vs. the A's, but this is a different team ranked 5th in OPS vs. LHP and scoring over 5.5 runs per game vs. LHP. The A's are also 27-13 during night games this year while Colon has a 2.36 ERA during night starts.

Houston has its best pitcher going in Bud Norris (5-5, 3.43 ERA) who has a 2.25 ERA his last three starts. Norris tossed his fourth quality start in a row Thursday against the Orioles. He held Baltimore to just three runs in seven innings of work, while walking one batter and striking out seven. He faces a bad Seattle offense that is 24th in runs scored and 23rd in on base percentage. Seattle righty Aaron Harang (2-6, 6.70 ERA) is washed up allowing 55 hits and 10 homers in 45+ innings. Slumping Seattle is on a 7-15 run and the Astros are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings, including 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Seattle. Play the Astros.

We don't need a lot of reasons to look against Miami beyond its 18-45 record and the Marlins' National League-worst -83 run differential. Although they've received some good efforts from tonight's starter Jacob Turner in his last two starts, it's hard to trust an offense that scores a tick under 3 runs per game and was whipped by a 6-1 count last night by suddenly-percolating Milwaukee, which has won four in a row.  While Brewers starter Wily Peralta has had his problems, he is likely to get some run support from a surging Milwaukee offense that has tallied 24 runs in its current 4-game win streak and has won its last two games by a combined 15-2 scoreline. Ryan Braun is hurting with a sore thumb, but Carlos Gomez drove in two runs and scored twice from Braun's No. 3 spot in the order on Monday, while Jean Segura has gone 6 for 18 with four RBIs in the win streak.  Rickie Weeks is also finally getting hot, now 8 for his last 17 with a couple of homers in his last six games.

The Tigers are too a heavy a favorite to Unit rate. However for a free play they apply to a solid Power System that has Cashed 16 of the last 19 times which plays on certain road favorites off a 1 run road favored loss if they scored 2 or less runs and taking on an opponent off a 1 run home dog win that scored 4 or less runs on 5+ hits. KC Won last night 3-2 as a nice home dog to set this play up. Hover the Royals are just 1-11 as a home dog in this range and this could be the spot where their 6 game win streak gets snapped. Detroit has won 6 of 7 on Tuesday and 17 of 23 as a road favorite in this range. In games where the total is 8 to 8.5 Detroit has won 20 of 28 games. Tonight they have Max Scherzer on the mound and his road era is nearly 4 runs better at 1.66 then his counter part Wade Davis has at home with a 5.34 era. Take the Tigers tonight.

Second verse, same as the first. The Reds grabbed the opener of their series with the Cubs in easy fashion, and they're likely to do the same tonight.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Welcome to what has turned into one of the more lopsided series you'll find anywhere. The Reds have now won 20 of their last 27 at Wrigley Field, and they're a remarkable 41- 15 in the last 56 meetings with the Cubs.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The mound battle tonight features Tony Cingrani against Matt Garza. Cingrani has been recalled due to the injury to Johnny Cueto, and he'll be looking to build on what was an impressive debut in a series of starts last month. Cingrani didn't sulk upon heading back down to Louisville. The lefty had a few control issues in his first two starts back, but was in command last time out, issuing zero free passes. In 17 innings down on the farm, Cingrani gave up only four runs and registered 23 K's. This southpaw has star potential and I expect him to contain the Cubs tonight.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
There's nothing wrong with Garza, and in fact he's had success against the likely Reds starters, who've gone only 13/8 with a pair of Jay Bruce HR's against him. Plus Garza is in decent form since coming off his DL stint, and the Cubs have won three of his last four starts.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The main thing here, however, is simply the team form and history. That's all Cincy on both counts. This is like a home away from home for the Reds, and I have to think there's an excellent chance that continues tonight.

We correctly bet on Tim Lincecum last week against the Blue Jays, a team that hadn't seen Lincecum much before that game. Now, Lincecum returns to National League opponents in Tuesday's game against the Pirates. There will be a big buzz in the ballpark at PNC because it will be the Major League debut of highly-touted prospect Gerrit Cole. Despite Lincecum's momentary success in his last start, he has still allowed four or more runs in seven of his 12 outings this season. Lincecum's line drive rate is at a career high for the second straight season and Pirates hitters will definitely feed off the energy in the ballpark, wanting to get Cole that first win.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Gerrit Cole will have the advantage that most rookie pitchers experience in his first Major League start. It will take the opposition a couple times through the lineup to get acclimated to what he's throwing. Cole sits between 93-96 with the fastball, but can run it up to triple digits. Unlike most young pitchers who throw hard, Cole has pretty good command, with 199 strikeouts and 77 walks in 215 innings for a solid 2.58 K/BB ratio. The Giants are averaging just 3.25 runs per game over their last 12 games, so this is a lineup that has had its problems and will probably have to score in support of Lincecum.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Pirates are experiencing a lot of success this season and the debut of Cole should provide a spark for the lineup and the rest of the pitching staff.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Tuesday, June 11

CRAIG DAVIS

Free play of the day on the NY Yankees over the Oakland A's as they continue their west coast trip.

For me tonight, it's pretty simple... the Yankees are sending a guy to the mound who was born on the west coast and has dominated the A's of late... vs. a guy who played for the Yankees two seasons ago, was banned for 50 games for cheating last year, and now expects to be able to "sneak one over" on the team that employed him previously??

I think not.

Look, I'm fully aware that the A's have been winning and winning and winning and they are even better at home than they are on the road, but these are the Yankees, and in order to keep pace with the Red Sox they simply have to continue winning.

The Yanks earned their sixth win in seven games Sunday in a 2-1 win over Seattle... spoiling and fairly solid outing by Felix Hernandez.

Bartolo Colon (7-2, 3.14 ERA) is 4-0 with a 0.90 ERA in his last four starts, but that number is a bit conceiving considering he hasn't faced a team the caliber of NY in that span and hasn't fared well against them in the past.

He's 0-3 with an 11.05 ERA in his last five starts against the Yankees... and it doesn't seem to matter the venue.

As for New York, they send CC Sabathia to the mound to counter Colon and I like my chances with that matchup.

Sabathia (6-4, 3.74) is 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA in his last seven matchups, and what's even more impressive is the fact that he is 2-0 with a 2.49 ERA in his last three visits to Oakland.

BRAD WILTON

Tonight's free play is the Giants to ruin the debut of Pirates hurler Gerrit Cole.

The former #1 draft pick out of UCLA will make his big league debut at PNC Park tonight, and while he comes highly-touted, this is still the defending World Series champs he is up against, and a former Cy Young Award winner as well in Tim Lincecum.

The Giants hit the Steel City having won their last pair of games and 4 of their last 6 overall, while the Pirates are currently on a 2-4 slide.

Lincecum is coming off his best outing of the season, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits in his 7 innings of work in a 2-1 Giants win over Toronto the last time he trotted to the mound.

Cole may come out on fire to start, but the deeper this game goes, the better I like the Giants chances at chasing him and getting the series opening win.

San Fran the call tonight over Pittsburgh.

Your Tuesday freebie is the Under in Game Three of the NBA Finals.

You get the feeling that eventually the Heat and Spurs are going to hum for all four quarters and head Over the total, but with the first two games holding Under the total, and the Spurs now Under in each of their last three in the playoffs, and the Heat now having held Under the total in five straight this postseason, I think you have to stay the course and take the Under until the two teams show you they can get over the total in convincing fashion.

My guess is that the teams will try and get their perimeter games going early in this one, as they both had moderate success on Sunday shooting the trifecta. My second guess is that the shots don't fall as easily in the first of three shooting at the different rims in this spot.

One more Under in Game Three on Tuesday night!

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Tuesday, June 11

Heat/Spurs Over 187½

There is very little chance for Miami to hold the Spurs to under 90 points in back to back games. San Antonio averages 104.4 points per game on their home court. Their defense looked good in game 1 of this series but they are still facing one of the most prolific offenses in the NBA this season. The Heat average 101.8 points per game overall and with these two offenses on the court I think we can expect our first real shootout in this series.

The first two games may have gone under the total but Miami is still 8-3 to the over in their last 11 games against Southwest division teams. The Heat are 8-3 in their last 11 road games against teams with a winning home record. San Antonio is also trending towards the over going 5-1 in their last 6 games played at home. They are 5-2 to the over following a straight up loss. Expect a high scoring game with the change in venue as this game should go over the total.

The Pirates fall into a great system that allows us to play on all favorites with a money line of -110 or higher - with a team on base percentage .300 or worse on the season (NL), in June games (42-19 since 1997). Pittsburgh is 31-19 (+15.9 Units) against the money line against right-handed starters this season. The Pirates respond well off a loss this year as they are 16-9.

Prized phenom pitcher Gerrit Cole makes his MLB debut tonight and he and the Pirates crowd will be amped up. Lincecum goes for the Giants and he has not been good this year on the orad as he has a 5.67 ERA. Take the Pirates tonight.

Chris Jordan

My free winner for tonight is going to be on the Chicago White Sox, as I have them getting it done over the Toronto Blue Jays for their fourth straight win.

Quite a game last night, but it was one that Chicago probably needed to keep some motivation going while generating even more momentum. I don't see the White Sox offense slowing down, as the Blue Jays hand the ball to Chein Ming Wang, who is making his first start for the Blue Jays after signing a big league deal this past week. I know he's never lost to the South Siders, but he also spent the first part of this season with the Yankees' Trple-A affiliate. Now he's with the Blue Jays, and it remains to be seen whether or not he'll like his new spot.

As for Chicago, the ball goes to Jose Quintana, who lasted 7-2/3 innings against the Athletics but finished with a no-decision when the White Sox failed to hold a 3-0 lead. He still has just one victory since April 25.

Take the White Sox, don't bother listing either pitcher cause if one of them doesn't go I still want my money on Chicago.

3♦ CHICAGO

Rarely if ever do I lay big numbers, and with my premium plays I never lay over -150, but if you wanna make a stretch on Tuesday Detroit with Schezer toeing the rubber, will bounce back againt Kansas City tonight in KC, and with Davis on the hill for KC Schezer will have the run support in this one. He is 8-0 as a starter this year and the team 9-3 when he starts. KC on a roll, but the fairy tale ends tonight- not enough hitting out of KC to drive in enough runs to win this one with Davis on the hill for them. KC strugglews BIG TIME against good pitchers, and bear in mind although KC won last night, their recent run of wins has been against bottom feeders. Detroit shows why they are leading the AL Central toinight.
