Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers off a 2-4 road swing return home to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for an eleven game home stand starting with three against Cleveland Indians. The 37-25 Rangers will send Josh Lindblom (0-1, 7.71 ERA) to the mound in the opener to face lefty Scott Kazmir. Lindblom called up to make the start for re-injured Alexi Ogando was 6-0 with a 2.04 ERA in Triple-A. Cleveland's starter, Kazmir lasted six frames last time out but was saddled with the loss giving up a three run homer to Mark Teixeira in a 3-1 defeat against Yankees. Kazmir 0-3 with 6.66 ERA on the road this season hasn't faced Texas since 2010 and will head to the bump looking to snap an 0-3 TSR vs Rangers. Cleveland mired in a 0-7 skid, 4-15 slump will be hard pressed vs a Ranger club which has thrived at home going 18-8 plating a shade over 5 runs/game and 7-1 opening a series in their back yard. Stick with Texas knowing they've owned Tribe posting a 26-8 record L34 meetings including 12-3 in Arlington.

Baseball Odds and Preview Capsules: June 10

Boston Red Sox (39-25, 18-11 road, 34-27 O/U) at Tampa Bay Rays (34- 28, 19-11 home, 34-23 O/U)

Intangibles

Boston has won five of the first six in this series
John Lackey has recorded four straight quality starts
Boston has a 1 1/2 lead over the Yankees in the American League East

Last game: (5/16/13) Boston (+127) over Tampa Bay, 4-3.

Keys to Success

Both teams are playing good baseball. Tampa Bay just won two of three at home against Baltimore. Boston took two of three at home against the Los Angeles Angels. The Red Sox need another big effort from starter John Lackey, who gave up five runs against Tampa Bay on May 14, which was his worst start of the season. Alex Cobb goes to the mound for the Rays and he's 6-2 with a 2.39 ERA. The Boston native is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA against the Red Sox. Tampa Bay is 10-4 last 14 overall. MLB Betting Odds: Tampa Bay is a -135-money line favorite. Total: 7.5

Arizona Diamondbacks (35-28, 18-14 road, 27-34 O/U) at Los Angeles Dodgers (27-35, 18-18 home, 32-27 O/U)

Intangibles

Arizona pitcher Wade Miley is 3-0 with a 2.17 ERA at Dodger Stadium
Yasiel Puig is 13 of 28 with four homer sine his debut on Monday
Arizona has won four straight against Dodgers

Last game: (5/8/13) Arizona (+160) over LA Dodgers, 3-2

Keys to Success

Two strong lefties go against each other in the NL West series. Clayton Kershaw (5-4, 1.93 ERA) is one of the best pitchers in the game but his last three starts have been ordinary. He allowed 10 runs in 21 innings with 22 hits. The Dodgers split a series at home against Atlanta and at least that's a step in the right direction. Since the brought up Cuban prospect Yasil Puig on Monday, June 3, they are 4-3. Arizona is coming off losing two of three at home against San Francisco. Arizona's starting rotation has posted a 10.80 ERA in their past three losses.  Arizona is 16-5 last 21 in this series. MLB Betting Odds: LA Dodgers are a -180 money line favorite. Total: 6.

LAS VEGAS -- Could the Blue Jays finally be getting the R.A. Dickey they bargained for?

The 2012 Cy Young award winner went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA last season with the Mets. He had five complete games and three shutouts. But just as unpredictable as his fluttering knuckleball is his start with the Blue Jays.

In 13 starts this season, Dickey (5-7, 4.66 ERA) has yet to pitch a complete game, let alone a shutout, but there are signs that he might be getting back to the 2012 version of himself. In his last start, he went 8 1/3 innings – his longest outing of the season – allowing only two hits and no runs in a 4-0 win at San Francisco. It was his best start of the year, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, since he was coming off two straight losses of allowing six runs.

Dickey faces the White Sox tonight, a team he beat, 3-1, on April 18 in what was his best performance of the season before his outstanding effort against the Giants on Wednesday. Dickey went six innings in that start, allowing only two hits and no runs.

The combination of Dickey identifying what his problems have been and facing a Chicago lineup that has scored more than four runs only once while losing 10 of their last 13 games should get the Blue Jays a win tonight. As a unit, Chicago is hitting only .236 this season, the lowest in the American League.

Regardless of how Dickey pitches tonight – we do think he’ll pitch well – one thing is nearly certain: he’ll be in the game for a long time. With the Toronto bullpen worn out, Dickey might even get his first complete game. Over the weekend set with the Rangers, where Toronto won two of three, the bullpen put in 20 innings of work, 11 of which came in Saturday‘s 18-inning marathon won by the Blue Jays.

Chicago will counter with Dylan Axelrod (3-4, 3.73 ERA), who comes off 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball at Seattle. That was the epic game where the White Sox and Mariners put five spots on each other in extra-innings of a game that was 0-0 after nine. The Sox eventually won, 7-5, in 16 innings.

Axelrod is 1-1 in three starts against the Blue Jays, but has served up five homers in his last nine innings against them.

This is a battle of AL cellar dwellers, but the Jays able to hit Axelrod, Dickey’s improvement and the Sox’s recent lack of offensive punch make this is a good spot to lay -120 on Toronto.

Monday’s selections:

Blue Jays (Dickey) -120 at White Sox

Reds (Bailey) -117 at Cubs

Angels (Weaver) -123 at Orioles

Season to date record: 119-115-1 (+633)
